description Tässä tutkielmassa tarkastellaan opetuspelien käytön hyötyjä ja haasteita aikuisille suunnatussa kielenopetuksessa. Opetuspelejä on Suomessa tutkittu lähinnä lasten oppimisen näkökulmasta, vaikka digitaalisten pelien pelaajien keski-ikä on maassamme lähes neljäkymmentä vuotta ja aikuisopiskelijoiden määrä pelkästään tutkintoon johtamattomissa koulutuksissa lähes kaksi miljoonaa. Tutkielma toteutettiin kirjallisuuskatsauksena, jossa pelien potentiaalia aikuisopiskelijoiden kohdalla selvitettiin lasten pelioppimisessa löydettyjen hyötyjen ja haasteiden avulla, sekä tarkastelemalla, miten aikuisten oppiminen eroaa lasten oppimistavoista. The purpose of this bachelor’s thesis is to inspect the benefits and challenges related to the usage of educational games in adult foreign language education. Educational games are video games that are developed mainly to teach people something new. In other words, educational games have a pedagogical purpose. In Finland, educational games have mainly been studied from the point of view of children’s education even though the average age of those who play video games in Finland is almost forty years and the amount of participants in nondegree education is nearly two million people. The research method for this thesis is a literature review, in which the potential of video games in adult education is elucidated by examining the benefits and challenges of educational games found in children’s education, and by inspecting how adult learning differs from how children learn.
