Tavoitteena on paljastaa Suomessa toimivien hotelliyritysen ka\u0308ytta\u0308ma\u0308t kilpailutoimet (competitive actions) ja tutkia kuinka kansainva\u0308listen hotelliyritysten markkinoille tulo vaikuttavaa alan kilpailuun. Ta\u0308ma\u0308 tyo\u0308 perustuu kilpailudynamiikan tutkimukseen ja kilpailutoimia koskevaan kirjallisuuteen.\nTutkimuksessa ka\u0308ytetty tutkimusla\u0308hestymistapa noudattaa Gioia-metodologiaa, induktiivista tutkimusmenetelma\u0308a\u0308. Tutkimusstrategiana ka\u0308yteta\u0308a\u0308n monimenetelma\u0308isyytta\u0308; eli tutkimuksessa ka\u0308yteta\u0308a\u0308n seka\u0308 ma\u0308a\u0308ra\u0308llista\u0308 etta\u0308 laadullista tietoa. Tiedot analysoidaan ja visualisoidaan kahden data struktuurin avulla. Ta\u0308ma\u0308 varmistaa tutkimusprosessin luotettavuuden ja la\u0308pina\u0308kyvyyden. Tiedonkeruu tapahtuu kahdessa vaiheessa. Ensimma\u0308isessa\u0308 vaiheessa ka\u0308yteta\u0308a\u0308n ma\u0308a\u0308ra\u0308llista\u0308 dataa, joka koostuu julkisista tiedotteista kilpailutoimista. Ta\u0308ta\u0308 ma\u0308a\u0308ra\u0308llista\u0308 dataa ka\u0308yteta\u0308a\u0308n rakentamaan kilpailutoimintaprofiilit jokaiselle kuudelle tutkitulle hotelli yritykselle. Toisessa vaiheessa, na\u0308iden profiilien perusteella, haastatellaan hotelli toimialan asiantuntijoita tarjoamaan syva\u0308llisia\u0308 na\u0308kemyksia\u0308 ei-julki- sesti tiedotetuista kilpailutoimista. Lisa\u0308ksi haastatteluista pyrita\u0308a\u0308n saamaan perusteellinen ka\u0308sitys hotellitoimialan taloudellisista ja kilpailullisista haasteista ja mahdollisuuksista.\nHotelliyritysten havaitut kilpailutoimet Suomessa ovat 1) Tuotteen / palvelun parantaminen (teknologiset parannukset / innovaatiot); 2) Klusterit, verkostoituminen ja sijainti; 3) Revenue management / hinnoittelustrategiat; 4) Markkinoiden laajentaminen / markkinoille tulo; 5) Bra\u0308nda\u0308ys / tuotemerkkija\u0308rjesto\u0308 / markkinointi / palkinnot; 6) Myynti; 7) Liiketoimintamalli ja strategia; 8) Asiakaspalvelu, palvelun laatu, asiakassuhteiden hallinta; ja 9) Tyo\u0308ntekijo\u0308iden tyytyva\u0308isyys, tyo\u0308ntekijo\u0308iden sitoutuminen. Haastattelujen laadulliset tiedot osoittavat, etta\u0308 hotelliyritykset toivottavat uudet kilpailijat tervetulleiksi toimialalle. The aim is to reveal the competitive actions hotel companies in Finland focus on, and investigate how market en- tries of international hotel companies affect the competition in the industry. As such, this thesis builds on competitive dynamics research and competitive actions literature.\nThe research approach used in this thesis follows the Gioia methodology, an inductive research method. The research is conducted using a mixed-methods approach; collecting both quantitative and qualitative data. The data is analysed and visualised in two data structures. This ensures rigor and transparency of the research process. The data collection occurs in two phases. In the first phase, quantitative data, consisting of public announcements about competitive actions, is used to allocate competitive action profiles to each of the six studied hotel companies. In the second phase, based on these profiles, interviews are conducted with hotel industry experts to provide insights into non-promoted competitive actions, as well as to gain an in-depth understanding of economic and competitive challenges and opportunities within the hotel industry.\nThe found competitive actions used by hotel companies in Finland are 1) Improving product/service (Technological improvements/innovations); 2) Clustering, Networking and Locality; 3) Revenue management/pricing strategies; 4) Market expansion/market entry; 5) Branding /Brand Affiliation/Marketing/Awards; 6) Sales; 7) Business Model & Strat- egy; 8) Customer Service, Service Quality, Customer Relationship Management; and 9) Employee Satisfaction, Employee Engagement. The qualitative data from the interviews show that hotel companies welcome new entrants to the industry.
