Lisäksi olimme kiinnostuneita siitä, tapahtuuko vanhempien minäpystyvyyden tukemisessa muutosta terapiaprosessin edetessä. Tutkimuksemme on osa ”Uhmakkuus- ja käytöshäiriödiagnoosin saaneiden lasten perhekeskeinen hoito ja systemaattinen potilaspalaute syrjäytymisen ehkäisyssä” -tutkimusprojektia, jonka yhtenä tavoitteena on tukea uhmakkuus- ja käytöshäiriödiagnoosin saaneiden lasten ja heidän perheidensä toimijuutta. Toteutimme tutkimuksen analyysin aineistolähtöisesti keskustelunanalyysin menetelmin etsien niitä tilanteita, joissa terapeutit tukevat puheenvuoroissaan vanhempien minäpystyvyyttä. Banduran minäpystyvyyttä käsittelevä teoria toimi havainnointiamme ohjaavana viitekehyksenä. Havaitsimme vanhempien minäpystyvyyttä tuettavan erilaisten keinojen avulla, jotka kohdistuivat tukemaan vanhempien minäpystyvyyttä epäsuorasti kahden minäpystyvyyttä välittävän prosessin kautta. Lisäksi havaitsimme vanhempien minäpystyvyyden tukemisen muuttuvan terapiaprosessin edetessä. Tutkimuksemme tarjoaa uutta tietoa käytännön keinoista, joilla vanhempien minäpystyvyyttä voidaan tukea perheterapiassa. Tulostemme valossa vanhempien minäpystyvyyden tukeminen näyttäytyy merkittävänä osana lasten käytösongelmien hoitoa. Parents play a significant role in an interaction that maintains children`s conduct problems, and one factor that has been found to influence centrally on parenthood is parental self-efficacy. In this study we examined how parental self-efficacy is supported in family therapy, where family has come due to children`s conduct problems. We were also interested in how supporting parental self-efficacy changes during therapy. This study is a part of a research project called “Family-centered treatment and systematic feedback in the prevention of social exclusion for children diagnosed with conduct and oppositional defiant disorders”. Supporting the agency of these children and their families is one of the projects main goal. Our analysis was material-driven, and we used conversational analysis in search for situations where therapists support parents’ self-efficacy. Bandura`s theory of self-efficacy operated as a guiding frame of reference to our observing. We found that parents’ self-efficacy was supported by various means that were focused at supporting parental self-efficacy indirectly through two processes mediating self-efficacy. In addition, we found that supporting parents’ self-efficacy changed as the therapy progressed. This study provides new information about practical means that can be used in supporting parental self-efficacy in family therapy. In the light of our results supporting parental self-efficacy seems to form a significant part of the treatment of children with conduct problems.
