Toteutin tutkielman laadullisin menetelmin k\u00e4ytt\u00e4m\u00e4ll\u00e4 fenomenologis-hermeneuttista tutkimusotetta. Ker\u00e4sin aineiston retrospektiivisin\u00e4 teemahaastatteluina, joihin osallistui 5 nuorta aikuista eri puolilta Suomea (4 naista ja 1 mies). Haastateltavat olivat i\u00e4lt\u00e4\u00e4n 20\u201336-vuotiaita, ja tunsin heid\u00e4t entuudestaan. Valitsin haastateltavat osallistumisesta kiinnostuneiden joukosta harkinnanvaraisesti. Haastattelut nauhoitettiin ja niiden kesto vaihteli 26 minuutista 56 minuuttiin. Litteroitua aineistoa kertyi lopulta 99 sivua (Times New Roman, fontti 12, riviv\u00e4li 1,5). Analysoin aineistoni k\u00e4ytt\u00e4m\u00e4ll\u00e4 teemoittelua ja aineistol\u00e4ht\u00f6ist\u00e4 sis\u00e4ll\u00f6nanalyysi\u00e4.\nKoululiikunnan koetuista vaikutuksista kehonkuvaan muodostui aineistol\u00e4ht\u00f6isen sis\u00e4ll\u00f6nanalyysin tuloksena 25 alaluokkaa, jotka yhdistin kahdeksaksi yl\u00e4luokaksi. N\u00e4m\u00e4 kahdeksan yl\u00e4luokkaa puolestaan yhdistin edelleen kolmeksi p\u00e4\u00e4luokaksi: sosiaalinen ymp\u00e4rist\u00f6, liikuntatunnit ja yksil\u00f6n merkitys. Kehonkuvan yksil\u00f6llinen kokeminen n\u00e4kyi siin\u00e4, mit\u00e4 tekij\u00f6it\u00e4 haastateltavat painottivat kertomuksissaan. Tutkittavien v\u00e4lill\u00e4 oli eroja my\u00f6s siin\u00e4, kuinka paljon kehonkuvan koettiin liittyv\u00e4n koululiikuntakokemuksiin. Sosiaalinen ymp\u00e4rist\u00f6, kulttuuriset normit ja vertaiset vaikuttivat paljon kehonkuvan rakentumiseen. Liikuntatunteihin liittyvi\u00e4 kehonkuvaan vaikuttavia tekij\u00f6it\u00e4 olivat liikunnanopettajan lis\u00e4ksi my\u00f6nteiset ja kielteiset liikuntatuntikokemukset. Yksil\u00f6 itse oli my\u00f6s merkitt\u00e4v\u00e4 tekij\u00e4 kehonkuvan rakentumisessa muun muassa vertailun ja ulkoisiin tekij\u00f6ihin suhtautumisen kautta.\nTulosten tulkinnan perusteella liikunnanopetuksessa on asioita, joihin opettaja pystyy toiminnallaan vaikuttamaan ja sit\u00e4 kautta tukemaan my\u00f6nteisen kehonkuvan kehityst\u00e4. Oppilaiden rohkaiseminen, kannustaminen ja my\u00f6nteisten liikuntakokemusten tarjoaminen sek\u00e4 yleisen itsetunnon tukeminen ovat t\u00e4rkeit\u00e4. Opettajan on t\u00e4rke\u00e4\u00e4 tuntea oppilaiden kehitysvaiheeseen kuuluvat sosiaaliset, emotionaaliset ja kognitiiviset haasteet ja haluta toimia niiden kohtaamiseksi. T\u00e4m\u00e4 tutkielma voi tarjota opettajille arvokasta tietoa siit\u00e4, miten my\u00f6nteisen kehonkuvan tukemisen voisi ottaa huomioon liikunnanopetuksessa.", "language": "fi", "element": "description", "qualifier": "abstract", "schema": "dc"}, {"key": "dc.description.abstract", "value": "The purpose of this master\u2019s thesis study was to investigate different factors in physical education (PE) which have had an influence on young adults\u2019 body image in adolescence. The study was carried out using phenomenological-hermeneutical research approach and qualitative methods. I collected the data using retrospective thematic interviews with 5 young adults from all over Finland (4 women and 1 man). Their age ranged from 20 to 36 years. I selected the subjects from among those interested in participating the study. The duration of the interviews ranged from 26 minutes to 56 minutes. The interviews were recorded and the transcribed, and the final amount of transcribed material was 99 pages (Times New Roman 12, line spacing 1.5). Data was themed and analyzed using qualitative content analysis.\nBased on the analysis, I eventually formed 25 subcategories, which I merged into eight upper categories. These eight upper categories, in turn, I further merged into three main categories describing the factors, which have had an influence on body image in adolescence. Three main categories were the social environment, physical education classes, and the role of the individual. The subjectivity of one\u2019s body image was reflected in what factors the subjects emphasized in their stories. The perceptions of how body image was manifested in PE classes also varied between subjects. However, with all the subjects, the social environment, cultural norms, and peers contributed greatly to the change in body image. In addition to the physical education teacher, positive and negative physical education experiences were an essential factor of body image in school context. Thirdly, the role of the individual was also a significant factor in the development of body image through comparison and attitudes towards external factors.\nAccording to these results there are things in physical education that the teacher can address and thereby support the development of a positive body image. Providing positive experiences for all students, as well as supporting general self-esteem are essential. It is important for the teacher to be aware of the social, emotional, and cognitive challenges involved in the developmental phase of students and to be willing to take action to meet them.
