P\u00e4\u00e4dyin tarkastelemaan ilmi\u00f6t\u00e4 nelj\u00e4n tutkimuskysymyksen kautta. Ensin selvitin haastateltujen motiiveja ja tapoja k\u00e4ytt\u00e4\u00e4 sosiaalista mediaa. Toisena tutkin, millaisia vertaisryhm\u00e4ilmi\u00f6it\u00e4 sosiaalisessa mediassa ilmeni. Kolmantena pyrin selvitt\u00e4m\u00e4\u00e4n, miten haastateltujen kehonkuva oli muodostunut. Lopuksi tutkin mahdollisia yhteyksi\u00e4 sosiaalisen median ja kehonkuvan v\u00e4lill\u00e4. Suomessa ei ole tutkittu aihetta aikaisemmin, joten se tuotti uutta tietoa liikuntakasvatuksen tieteenalalle. Tavoitteena oli, ett\u00e4 tuloksia voitaisiin hy\u00f6dynt\u00e4\u00e4 tulevaisuuden liikuntakasvatuksessa. \nToteutin tutkimuksen laadullisena tutkimuksena k\u00e4ytt\u00e4en tutkimusmetodina fenomenologis-hermeneuttista tutkimusotetta, sill\u00e4 pyrkimyksen\u00e4ni oli ymm\u00e4rt\u00e4\u00e4 nuorten kokemuksia. Aineistonkeruumenetelm\u00e4n\u00e4 k\u00e4ytin teemahaastatteluja, joihin osallistui seitsem\u00e4n 13\u201315 -vuotiasta tytt\u00f6\u00e4 keskisuomalaisesta yl\u00e4koulusta. Tutkimusaineistoni muodostui teemahaastatteluista, joiden kesto vaihteli 34 minuutista 59 minuuttiin. Haastatteluaineistoa kertyi yhteens\u00e4 307 minuuttia, joka muodosti litteroitua aineistoa yhteens\u00e4 58 sivua Word -tiedostoina (fontti Times New Roman, fonttikoko 12, riviv\u00e4li 1). Analysoin aineiston k\u00e4ytt\u00e4m\u00e4ll\u00e4 aineistol\u00e4ht\u00f6ist\u00e4 sis\u00e4ll\u00f6nanalyysia. \nNuoret olivat aktiivisia ja tietoisia sosiaalisen median k\u00e4ytt\u00e4ji\u00e4. Sosiaalisten suhteiden hoitaminen oli heille yleisin motiivi k\u00e4ytt\u00e4\u00e4 sosiaalista mediaa. Nuoren luoman profiilin sis\u00e4lt\u00f6 sosiaalisessa mediassa keskittyi esitt\u00e4m\u00e4\u00e4n joko nuorta itse\u00e4\u00e4n tai h\u00e4nen kiinnostuksen kohdettaan. Nuoret kokivat sosiaalisen median luovan ulkon\u00e4k\u00f6ihanteita ja aiheuttavan paineita n\u00e4ytt\u00e4\u00e4 tietynlaiselta. Oman ulkon\u00e4\u00f6n esitt\u00e4miseen suhtauduttiin luonnollisena osana sosiaalisen median maailmaa, vaikka sek\u00e4 oman, ett\u00e4 muiden julkaiseman sis\u00e4ll\u00f6n koettiin olevan osittain ep\u00e4aitoa. Nuorten kehonkuva rakentui vuorovaikutussuhteessa omien ajatusten ja tunteiden sek\u00e4 sosiaalisen ymp\u00e4rist\u00f6n v\u00e4lill\u00e4, jossa toiminnallinen suhde kehoon n\u00e4ytt\u00e4ytyi positiivista kehonkuvaa rakentavana tekij\u00e4n\u00e4. Sosiaalista mediaa tarkasteltiin osana nuoren sosiaalista ymp\u00e4rist\u00f6\u00e4. Hyv\u00e4 itsetunto, monilukutaito ja tietoisuus sosiaalisesta mediasta suojasivat sen haittavaikutuksilta, joita oli muun muassa vertailu muihin. Tietoisuuden avulla nuori kykeni my\u00f6s heikent\u00e4m\u00e4\u00e4n sosiaalisen median negatiivisia vaikutuksia muuttamalla omia sosiaalisen median k\u00e4ytt\u00f6tapojaan.\nLiikuntakasvatuksen mahdollisuus tukea murrosik\u00e4isten tytt\u00f6jen kehonkuvaa on merkitt\u00e4v\u00e4. Liikunnanopetuksen avulla voidaan ohjata nuorta tarkastelemaan kehoa toiminnallisesti keskittym\u00e4ll\u00e4 taitoharjoitteluun ja kehon tuntemuksiin sen ulkon\u00e4\u00f6n sijaan. Nuoren vahvuuksia ja itsens\u00e4 hyv\u00e4ksymist\u00e4 korostavalla pedagogiikalla voidaan vahvistaa nuoren itsetuntoa. Moniluku- ja mediataitoja kehitt\u00e4m\u00e4ll\u00e4 voidaan kouluissa lis\u00e4t\u00e4 nuorten tietoisuutta sosiaalisen median vaikutuksista, mik\u00e4 edesauttaa rakentavaa sosiaalisen median k\u00e4ytt\u00f6\u00e4. Lis\u00e4ksi avoin keskustelu ulkon\u00e4k\u00f6paineista voi helpottaa nuorten kokemia ulkon\u00e4k\u00f6huolia.", "language": "fi", "element": "description", "qualifier": "abstract", "schema": "dc"}, {"key": "dc.description.abstract", "value": "The purpose of this study was to explore adolescent girls' perceptions and experiences about the relations between social media and body image. Firstly, the objective was to explore the overall social media use of adolescent girls and the motivation behind it. Secondly the intention was to discover, what kind of peer group phenomena existed in social media. Thirdly the aim was to study, which factors build adolescent girls' body image. Last the purpose was to discover the relations between social media and body image.\nThe study was conducted qualitatively using a hermeneutic phenomenological research method. The data was gathered using theme interviews, into which seven adolescent girls aged from 13 to 15 years old from Central Finland area participated. Durations of the interviews varied between 34 and 59 minutes, lasting 307 minutes altogether. The final amount of transcribed material was 72 pages (Times New Roman 12, row pitch 1). The data was analyzed using data-oriented content analysis.\nAdolescent girls were active and conscious social media users. Socialization and communication were the main motives for them to use social media. The profiles of adolescent girls in social media were concentrated to exhibit either themselves or their interest. According to adolescent girls social media created body image and appearance ideals which caused them pressure to look a certain way. Exhibiting own appearance in social media was viewed normal. Overall environment of social media and the exhibited contents of self and others were found to be partly fake. The body image of a adolescent girl was based on interaction between one's own perceptions and feelings about one's body and one's social environment. The functional perception of one's body affected the body image positively. Social media was analyzed as part of adolescent girls' social environment. Healthy self-esteem, multiliteracy and awareness of social media protected adolescent girls from negative effects of social media, such as social comparison. Awareness of social media enabled adolescent girl to diminish the negative effects of social media by changing one's way to use it.\nThe way physical education can support adolescent girls' body image is remarkable. With the help of appropriate physical instruction teacher is able to guide the student to observe one's body functionally by focusing to skill development and sensations of the body. Using pedagogy which highlights student's strengths and builds self-acceptance the teacher can support the self-esteem of the student. An open discussion about the appearance-related pressures has the possibility to ease the body image concerns of the adolescent girls.
