Tutkimuksessa oli mukana 491 lasta 37:lt\u00e4 luokalta 17:st\u00e4 alakoulusta Keski- ja Etel\u00e4-Suomesta. Tutkimukseen osallistuneista poikia oli 216 ja tytt\u00f6j\u00e4 275. Oppilaiden fyysisen aktiivisuuden m\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4\u00e4 ja intensiteetti\u00e4 mitattiin ActiGraph wGT3X-BT -aktiivisuusmittarilla. Oppilaat jaettiin ryhmiin sukupuolen ja keskiraskaan tai raskaan fyysisen aktiivisuuden kokonaism\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4n perusteella. Tutkimus toteutettiin vertailemalla keskiraskaan tai raskaan fyysisen aktiivisuuden sek\u00e4 MET-minuuttien osuutta niiden viikottaisesta kokonaisarvosta. Vertailu tehtiin sek\u00e4 liikuntatunnin ett\u00e4 vapaa-ajan fyysisen aktiivisuuden osalta.\nTutkimuksen tulokset osoittivat, ett\u00e4 fyysisesti aktiivisimpien oppilaiden liikuntatunnin aikana saavutettu osuus viikottaisesta kokonaisaktiivisuudesta oli tilastollisesti eritt\u00e4in merkitsev\u00e4sti pienempi kuin fyysisesti inaktiivisimpien oppilaiden vastaava osuus. Ero oli samansuuntainen keskiraskasta ja raskasta fyysist\u00e4 aktiivisuutta sek\u00e4 MET-minuutteja tarkasteltaessa. Vapaa-ajan osalta fyysisesti aktiivisimman oppilasnelj\u00e4nneksen osuus fyysisest\u00e4 aktiivisuudesta oli tilastollisesti eritt\u00e4in merkitsev\u00e4sti fyysisesti inaktiivisinta oppilasnelj\u00e4nnest\u00e4 suurempi. Ero oli samansuuntainen sek\u00e4 keskiraskasta ja raskasta fyysist\u00e4 aktiivisuutta ett\u00e4 MET-minuutteja tarkasteltaessa. Fyysisesti aktiivisten oppilaiden osalta vapaa-ajalla on merkitt\u00e4vin vaikutus oppilaiden liikuttajana. My\u00f6s inaktiivisilla oppilailla vapaa-ajan osuus fyysisest\u00e4 aktiivisuudesta oli merkitt\u00e4vin, mutta liikuntatunnilla on huomattavampi osuus heid\u00e4n liikuttajanaan.\nTutkimuksen tulokset osoittivat, ettei sukupuolten v\u00e4lill\u00e4 ollut merkitsev\u00e4\u00e4 eroa liikuntatunnin aikaisen fyysisen aktiivisuuden osuudessa kokonaisaktiivisuudesta keskiraskaan tai raskaan fyysisen aktiivisuuden, eik\u00e4 MET-minuuttien osalta. Keskiraskaan tai raskaan fyysisen aktiivisuuden osuudessa vapaa-ajalla ei ollut sukupuolten v\u00e4list\u00e4 eroa. MET-minuutteja tarkasteltaessa sukupuolten v\u00e4lill\u00e4 oli kuitenkin tilastollisesti melkein merkitsev\u00e4 (p=.024) ero. Tyt\u00f6t liikkuivat vapaa-ajalla poikia enemm\u00e4n. Ero selittyy todenn\u00e4k\u00f6isesti tytt\u00f6jen vapaa-ajan aikaisella poikia runsaammalla kevyell\u00e4 fyysisell\u00e4 aktiivisuudella.\nTutkimuksemme fyysisen aktiivisuuden ker\u00e4\u00e4ntymisest\u00e4 liikuntatunnin ja vapaa-ajan aikana osoitti liikuntatunnin merkityksen erityisesti fyysisesti inaktiivisten nuorten liikuttajana. Tutkimuksen tulosten perusteella on my\u00f6s aiheellista mietti\u00e4, olisiko MET-minuuttien k\u00e4yt\u00f6ll\u00e4 edellytyksi\u00e4 fyysisen kokonaisaktiivisuuden mittarina lasten ja nuorten fyysist\u00e4 aktiivisuutta tutkittaessa. Etenkin sukupuolten v\u00e4lisi\u00e4 kokonaisaktiivisuuden eroja tutkittaessa MET-minuutteja k\u00e4ytt\u00e4m\u00e4ll\u00e4 lasten fyysisen aktiivisuuden luonteesta voi l\u00f6yty\u00e4 uutta tietoa. The physical activity was measured as a\nshare out of their weekly total values. The sample consisted out of 491 children from 37 classes in 17\ndifferent primary schools in Southern and Central Finland. The sample consisted of 216 boys and 275\ngirls. Students\u2019 physical activity was measured using ActiGraph wGT3X-BT accelerometer. The\nstudy was conducted by comparing moderate to vigorous physical activity and MET-minutes to their\nweekly total values. The comparison was made on physical education and leisure time physical\nactivity.\nThe results of this study showed that students\u2019 activity class was related to the physical activity levels\nduring both physical education and leisure time. Physically active students had a statistically lower\nshare of their weekly physical activity during physical education classes than their physically inactive\ncounterparts. The findings were similar in both moderate to vigorous physical activity and METminutes. During leisure time, the students with higher overall physical activity had a bigger\npercentage achieved out of their total physical activity levels than the physically less active group.\nThe findings were again similar in both moderate to vigorous physical activity and MET-minutes.\nLeisure time seemed to have a more significant role in physical activity on most overall active\nstudents. The inactive group also had a significant amount of their physical activity achieved during\nleisure time. Still, physical education plays a more significant role on increasing their overall physical\nactivity levels.\nAccording to this study, sex does not have a significant role in physical activity levels during physical\neducation classes on either moderate to vigorous physical activity or MET-minutes. The difference\nin moderate to vigorous physical activity during leisure time between sexes was not significant.\nExamining MET-minutes shows a statistically significant (p=.024) difference in physical activity\nlevels during leisure time activity between sexes. The girls had a bigger share of their weekly total\nphysical activity achieved during leisure time than boys. Previous study suggests the difference may\nbe caused by the girls achieving significantly more light physical during leisure time than boys.\nAccording to this study, physical activity classes play a significant role in especially moving the\nphysically more inactive students. The results of this study indicate that it is necessary to consider\nusing MET-minutes as a value on measuring children\u2019s total physical activity levels. Especially\nfocusing on differences between sexes, it might help find new information on habitual differences\nbetween physical activity routines.
