Perheen avoimen kommunikaation ja korkean varallisuustason on todettu olevan yhteydess\u00e4 nuorten korkeaan terveyden lukutaitoon, mutta toistaiseksi tiedet\u00e4\u00e4n vain v\u00e4h\u00e4n perheen merkityksest\u00e4 nuorten terveyden lukutaidon kehityksess\u00e4. Suomen- ja ruotsinkielisten v\u00e4lisi\u00e4 eroja terveyden lukutaidossa sek\u00e4 perheen sosiaalisen ilmapiirin (t\u00e4ss\u00e4 tutkimuksessa: perheen tuki, perheen vuorovaikutusilmapiiri, kommunikointi is\u00e4n ja \u00e4idin kanssa) ja varallisuustason yhteytt\u00e4 terveyden lukutaitoon ei ole tutkittu 15-vuotiailla. \nT\u00e4m\u00e4n tutkimuksen tarkoituksena oli selvitt\u00e4\u00e4, onko 15-vuotiaiden terveyden lukutaidossa eroa suomenkielisten ja ruotsinkielisten v\u00e4lill\u00e4, sek\u00e4 miten perheen varallisuustaso, perheen tuki, perheen vuorovaikutusilmapiiri ja kommunikointi vanhempien kanssa ovat yhteydess\u00e4 terveyden lukutaitoon suomenkielisill\u00e4 ja ruotsinkielisill\u00e4 15-vuotiailla.\nTutkimuksen aineistona k\u00e4ytettiin vuonna 2014 Suomessa ker\u00e4tty\u00e4 WHO-Koululaistutkimuksen osa-aineistoa, jossa oli mukana sek\u00e4 suomenkielisi\u00e4 (n=1935) ett\u00e4 ruotsinkielisi\u00e4 (n=541) 9.-luokkalaisia oppilaita. Aineisto analysoitiin IBM SPSS Statistics 26 \u2013ohjelmistolla ja analyysimenetelmin\u00e4 k\u00e4ytettiin ristiintaulukointia, khiin neli\u00f6testi\u00e4 sek\u00e4 bin\u00e4\u00e4rist\u00e4 logistista regressioanalyysi\u00e4.\nTulosten mukaan kieliryhmien v\u00e4lill\u00e4 ei ollut eroja terveyden lukutaidon tasossa. Suomenkielisill\u00e4 tyt\u00f6ill\u00e4 ja pojilla terveyden lukutaidon taso vaihteli kaikkien tarkastelussa olleiden perhetekij\u00f6iden mukaan. Suomenkielisten poikien korkean terveyden lukutaidon todenn\u00e4k\u00f6isyytt\u00e4 lis\u00e4siv\u00e4t perheen keskinkertainen ja korkea varallisuustaso, perheen vahva tuki sek\u00e4 keskinkertainen ja hyv\u00e4 vuorovaikutusilmapiiri. Suomenkielisill\u00e4 tyt\u00f6ill\u00e4 korkean terveyden lukutaidon todenn\u00e4k\u00f6isyytt\u00e4 lis\u00e4siv\u00e4t perheen keskinkertainen ja hyv\u00e4 vuorovaikutusilmapiiri ja helppo kommunikaatio is\u00e4n kanssa. Ruotsinkielisill\u00e4 pojilla ja tyt\u00f6ill\u00e4 terveyden lukutaidon taso vaihteli perheen tuen ja vuorovaikutusilmapiirin mukaan. Ruotsinkielisten poikien osalta korkean terveyden lukutaidon todenn\u00e4k\u00f6isyytt\u00e4 lis\u00e4siv\u00e4t keskinkertainen ja vahva tuki perheelt\u00e4, ja tyt\u00f6ill\u00e4 vahva perheen tuki.\nTulos kieliryhmien samantasoisesta terveyden lukutaidosta voi olla selitett\u00e4viss\u00e4 maanlaajuisesti tasavertaisella terveystiedon opetuksella. Tutkimuksessa tunnistettu perheen sosiaalisen ilmapiirin yhteys sek\u00e4 suomen- ett\u00e4 ruotsinkielisten nuorten terveyden lukutaidon tasoon on huomioitava perheiss\u00e4 sek\u00e4 perhepoliittisessa p\u00e4\u00e4t\u00f6ksenteossa. Tarve on t\u00e4m\u00e4n osalta kummassakin kieliryhm\u00e4ss\u00e4 samanlaista. Previous studies have determined that an open communication environment and high family affluence are associated with good health literacy in adolescence, but little is known about the role of family in the development of adolescents` health literacy. Differences in health literacy between Finnish and Swedish speaking adolescents and how family social climate (in this study: family support, family communication environment, communication with mom and dad) and family affluence are associated with health literacy in Finnish and Swedish speakers have not been studied in 15-year-olds. \n\nThe aim of this study was to investigate the difference in health literacy between Finnish and Swedish speaking 15-year-olds, and to examine how family affluence, family social support, family communication environment, and communication with parents are associated with health literacy in Finnish and Swedish speaking 15-year-olds. The data used in this study is a part of the Health Behavior of School-aged Children study (HBSC) collected in 2014 in Finland. The data consisted of Finnish speaking pupils (n=1935) and Swedish speaking pupils (n=541) in the 9th grade. The data was analyzed with IBM SPSS Statistics 26 software. Cross-tabulation, chi-square test and binary logistic regression were used as methods of analysis.\n\nThe results show that there were no differences in health literacy between Finnish and Swedish speaking adolescents. Among Finnish speakers, all the family variables were associated with health literacy. Amongst Finnish speaking boys, medium or high family affluence, high family support and good family communication environment increased the likelihood of high health literacy. In Finnish speaking girls, average and good family communication environment and easy communication with father increased the likelihood of high health literacy. Amongst Swedish speakers, health literacy was associated with family support and family communication environment. In Swedish speaking boys, an average or strong family support increased the likelihood of high health literacy. In Swedish speaking girls, strong family support increased the likelihood of high health literacy.\n\nWhen comparing health literacy in Finnish and Swedish speakers, the lack of differences might be due to nation-wide good quality education. Based on the results, family social climate is of importance in the development of adolescents` health literacy. This should be recognized within families and in family policy, and the need is similar for both language groups.
