Lis\u00e4ksi englanti on vahvasti esill\u00e4 koulutusj\u00e4rjestelm\u00e4ss\u00e4 jo ala-asteella. Vuonna 2018 valtioneuvosto p\u00e4\u00e4tti A1-kielten varhennetun opetuksen aloittamisesta. K\u00e4yt\u00e4nn\u00f6ss\u00e4 muutoksen takia vuoden 2019 syksyll\u00e4 koulunsa aloittaneet oppilaat aloittivat A1-kielen opiskelun ensimm\u00e4isen luokan kev\u00e4tlukukaudelta l\u00e4htien. Varhennetun kieltenopetuksen p\u00e4\u00e4t\u00f6ksess\u00e4 opetuksen j\u00e4rjest\u00e4jille annettiin mahdollisuus p\u00e4\u00e4tt\u00e4\u00e4 hy\u00f6dynt\u00e4v\u00e4tk\u00f6 he varhennetun A1-kielen opetuksessa luokan- vai aineenopettajia. Koska englanti on Suomessa yksi eniten tarjotuista ja opiskelluista A1-kielist\u00e4, on hyvin mahdollista, ett\u00e4 luokanopettajat tulevat jatkossa opettamaan englantia esi- ja alkuopetuksessa. \nT\u00e4m\u00e4n tutkimuksen tavoitteena on selvitt\u00e4\u00e4 millaisissa tilanteissa luokanopettajat tarvitsevat englantia ty\u00f6el\u00e4m\u00e4ss\u00e4\u00e4n ja valmistaako nykyinen luokanopettajakoulutus tulevia luokanopettajia ty\u00f6el\u00e4m\u00e4\u00e4n englannin kielen suhteen. Tutkimus suoritettiin laadullisena tutkimuksena hy\u00f6dynt\u00e4en puolistrukturoituja teemahaastatteluja ja sis\u00e4ll\u00f6nanalyysi\u00e4. Tutkimuksessa haastateltiin luokanopettajaopiskelijoita ja valmistuneita luokanopettajia. Ryhmien vastauksia verrattiin kesken\u00e4\u00e4n, jotta saatiin selville, millainen k\u00e4sitys luokanopettajaopiskelijoilla on englannin kielen k\u00e4yt\u00f6st\u00e4 ty\u00f6el\u00e4m\u00e4ss\u00e4 ja kuinka n\u00e4m\u00e4 k\u00e4sitykset vastaavat todellisuutta. \nTulokset osoittavat luokanopettajaopiskelijoiden olevan suhteellisen tiet\u00e4m\u00e4tt\u00f6mi\u00e4 englannin kielen tarpeellisuudesta luokanopettajan ty\u00f6ss\u00e4. Opettajaopiskelijoiden k\u00e4sitykset tiivistyiv\u00e4t englannin k\u00e4ytt\u00e4miseen ulkomaisten vierailijoiden sek\u00e4 muuta kuin suomea \u00e4idinkielen\u00e4\u00e4n puhuvien vanhempien ja oppilaiden kanssa. Verrattuna valmistuneiden luokanopettajien kokemuksiin, opiskelijoiden lista j\u00e4i lyhyeksi. Molemmat kohderyhm\u00e4t toivat esille toiveensa englannin vahvemmasta sis\u00e4llytt\u00e4misest\u00e4 luokanopettajaopintoihin. Tulosten pohjalta luokanopettajakoulutus kaipaa englannin kokonaisvaltaisempaa integroimista osaksi luokanopettajaopintoja.
