Opetussuunnitelmaan lis\u00e4ttiin kaksi vuosiviikkotuntia A1-opetusta, nostaen vuosiviikkotuntim\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4n kuudestatoista kahdeksaantoista. Molemmat lis\u00e4tyt vuosiviikkotunnit tulee sijoittaa ensimm\u00e4iselle kahdelle vuosiluokalle. Muutoksen perusteiksi opetus- ja kulttuuriministeri\u00f6 antoi ep\u00e4tasa-arvon v\u00e4hent\u00e4misen vieraiden kielten opetuksessa, tarkoittaen sit\u00e4, ett\u00e4 A1-kieleksi valittaisiin v\u00e4hemm\u00e4n englantia ja enemm\u00e4n muita vieraita kieli\u00e4. Toinen peruste oli lasten herkkyysi\u00e4n hy\u00f6dynt\u00e4minen kielenopetuksessa. Herkkyysi\u00e4n teoriasta on kuitenkin tutkimusta molempiin suuntiin. Lis\u00e4ksi tutkimukset osoittavat vanhempien opiskelijoiden oppivan tehokkaammin korkeamman kognitiivisen kyvyn takia (Luz Celaya 2012).\n\nSuomen opetussuunnitelmaan kirjatut tavoitteet ensimm\u00e4iselle kahdelle kouluvuodelle A1-kielen suhteen ovat avoimia, eiv\u00e4tk\u00e4 anna kovin tarkkoja oppimissaavutuksia oppilaille. T\u00e4st\u00e4 her\u00e4\u00e4 kysymys siit\u00e4, oppivatko koulujemme nuorimmat vieraita kieli\u00e4 yht\u00e4 tehokkaasti kuin vanhemmat oppilaat, mill\u00e4 tavoin ja miss\u00e4 aiheissa. Olisiko kuitenkin parempi sijoittaa kaksi ylim\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4ist\u00e4 vuosiviikkotuntia vanhemmille oppilaille, jotka oletettavasti oppivat tehokkaammin aivojensa kehityksen takia?\n\nT\u00e4ss\u00e4 tutkimuksessa pyrittiin selvitt\u00e4m\u00e4\u00e4n opettajien kokemuksia ja havaintoja varhaistetusta kielenopettamisesta. Tutkimus toteutettiin haastattelemalla kahta opettajaa, joilla on alustavaa kokemusta ministeri\u00f6n m\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4\u00e4m\u00e4st\u00e4 uudistuksesta. Opettajilta tiedusteltiin miten nuoret oppilaat oppivat, millaisia kokemuksia heid\u00e4n opettamisestaan opettajilla on, miten heid\u00e4n oppimisensa on verrattavissa vanhempien oppilaiden kielenoppimiseen, ja miten nuorempana kieltenopiskelun aloittaminen voisi vaikuttaa saman kielen opiskeluun my\u00f6hempin\u00e4 kouluvuosina. Opettajien vastauksia heijastettiin aiempaan tutkimukseen, mutta selvitett\u00e4v\u00e4ksi j\u00e4\u00e4 viel\u00e4 se, onko teoria suoraan sovellettavissa k\u00e4yt\u00e4nn\u00f6n opettamiseen Suomessa.\n\nOpettajien n\u00e4kemykset aikaistetusta kielenopettamisesta eiv\u00e4t olleet t\u00e4ysin positiivisia eik\u00e4 t\u00e4ysin negatiivisia. Haastatellut kokivat nuorempien oppilaiden vaativan enemm\u00e4n kielenopetuksen ulkopuolista ohjausta, joka vei aikaa pois varsinaiselta opiskelulta.
