Tavoitteenamme oli saada ajankohtaista tietoa palloilun yleisyydest\u00e4 yl\u00e4koulun liikunnassa ja opettajien kokemuksista palloilun opettamisesta sek\u00e4 ymm\u00e4rt\u00e4\u00e4 n\u00e4ihin ilmi\u00f6ihin vaikuttavia tekij\u00f6it\u00e4. Tutkimuksen tarkoituksena oli perehty\u00e4 niihin tekij\u00f6ihin, jotka edesauttavat palloilun valikoitumista liikuntatuntien sis\u00e4ll\u00f6iksi ja j\u00e4sennell\u00e4 palloilun opetusta liikunnanopettajan n\u00e4k\u00f6kulmasta.\nTutkimus toteutettiin laadullisin tutkimusmenetelmin puolistrukturoidun kyselylomakkeen avulla talven 2019\u20132020 aikana. Tutkimukseen osallistui viisi mies- ja viisi naisliikunnanopettajaa eri puolilta Suomea. Tutkittavat olivat t\u00e4ll\u00e4 hetkell\u00e4 ty\u00f6el\u00e4m\u00e4ss\u00e4 olevia yl\u00e4koulun liikunnanopettajia. Tutkimuksen l\u00e4hestymistapa oli fenomenologis-hermeneuttinen ja tutkimusaineisto analysoitiin teoriaohjaavalla sis\u00e4ll\u00f6nanalyysill\u00e4.\nTutkimus osoitti palloilun olevan yh\u00e4 yleinen liikuntatuntien sis\u00e4lt\u00f6. Tutkimukseen osallistuneet liikunnanopettajat perustelivat palloilun yleisyytt\u00e4 koululiikunnassa nelj\u00e4n eri teeman kautta. Liikunnanopettajan n\u00e4k\u00f6kulma avasi palloilun m\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4\u00e4 konkreettisesti. Palloilun laajat mahdollisuudet sis\u00e4lsiv\u00e4t perusteluita palloilun laajan lajikirjon ja opetussuunnitelman tavoitteiden saavuttamisen kannalta. Oppilaiden n\u00e4k\u00f6kulma puolestaan selitt\u00e4\u00e4 palloilun yleisyytt\u00e4 muun muassa palloilun suosion ja tuttuuden kautta. Fyysinen aktiivisuus perustelee palloilun yleisyytt\u00e4 palloilutuntien sis\u00e4lt\u00e4m\u00e4n korkean aktiivisuuden tason avulla. \nLiikunnanopettajan toiminta avasi liikunnanopettajien kokemusmaailmaa palloilun opettamisesta. Kaikki tutkittavat liikunnanopettajat pitiv\u00e4t palloilun opettamisesta. Liikunnanopettajat tarkastelivat omaa toimintaansa palloilun opettajana ennen tuntia suunnittelun, tavoitteiden asettamisen ja sis\u00e4lt\u00f6jen valitsemisen kautta sek\u00e4 tunnin aikana opettamisen ja p\u00e4tevyyden kokemusten pohjalta. Tutkimuksen tuloksia voidaan hy\u00f6dynt\u00e4\u00e4 yleisell\u00e4 tasolla liikunnanopettajien koulutuksessa. Our goal was to gather current and topical information on the frequency of ball games in PE classes within secondary schools. As well as experiences of the PE teachers in teaching these games and the factors which affect this phenomenon. The purpose of this thesis was to specifically become acquainted with the factors, which contribute to the selection of ball games within the curriculum, as well as the structuring of these from the PE teacher\u2019s perspective.\nThis thesis was conducted using qualitative research methods in the form of a semi-structured questionnaire during the winter of 2019\u20132020. Five male and female PE teachers each from different parts of Finland attended this study. All participants at the time of the study were working as PE teachers at the secondary school level. This thesis was approached in a phenomenological-hermeneutic way, with the research data being analyzed through a content analysis method.\nThis research found ball games to still be a regular part of the PE curriculum. The participants based the prevalence of ball games through four different themes. PE teacher\u2019s view clarified concretely the prevalence of ball games. The wide opportunities of ball games included arguments about the wide range of ball games and achieving the aims of the curriculum. From the pupil\u2019s perspective, the prevalence of ball games is explained through the popularity and familiarity of these games among students. The high level of physical activity during a lesson with ball games, explains their commonality in PE curriculums. \nThe activities undertaken daily as a PE teacher opened up the participants\u2019 experience and knowledge in teaching ball games within lessons. All the participants of this study noted that they enjoyed teaching ball games. They reviewed their own actions before ball game lessons through planning, goal setting and choosing content, and during ball game lessons through teaching and competence experience. The results of this thesis can be generally utilized within the education of PE teachers.
