This may put customers in an unequal position as other customers get faster service by using digital services. Elderly customers are a group of customers who can easily be left behind by the rapid changes brought about by digitalization. Seniors do not adopt new technologies easily or quickly \u2013 not necessarily at all, which may be due to, for example, the lack of support for learning new things, which in turn leads to a lack of experience and skills and thus a lack of self-confidence. In addition, age-related challenges, such as impaired vision and memory, can make learning new things more difficult. The thesis aims to answer the research question \u00abWhat factors prevent seniors from using digital services in the process of applying for a right-of-occupancy apartment?\u00bb Eleven seniors aged 63-83 were interviewed. They had gone through the housing application process and did not use e-mail to communicate with the target company, TA. Through the interviews it was found that the main reason why they did not use e-mail to communicate with the company was that they felt traditional ways were good enough. They had no need to switch to e-mail. In addition to this, the spouse or other close relative of the interviewee took care of things on behalf of the interviewee and therefore the interviewee himself or herself did not have to learn how to use e-mail or other digital services. The interviews revealed that seniors are not used to using digital services. Because they have not had to use, for example, email at work, they may find it difficult to learn how to use it in retirement - especially if alternative traditional methods are available.
