Vesimuodostumiin lis\u00e4tyn puun pinnalle kasvaa biofilmi\u00e4, joka sitoo ravinteita. Pro gradun tavoitteena oli selvitt\u00e4\u00e4, vaikuttavatko biofilmin muodostumiseen puuaineksen pinnalle vesiymp\u00e4rist\u00f6ss\u00e4 puulaji (koivu, kuusi ja m\u00e4nty), puun tuoreus (tuore ja vuosi sitten kaadettu) ja sijoitussyvyys (l\u00e4hell\u00e4 pintaa, 50 cm syvyydell\u00e4 vedenpinnasta). Kokeellinen tutkimus suoritettiin ojitetun Pyydyssuon laskeutusaltaalla Joutsassa touko\u2013syyskuussa 2019. Puun pinnoilla kasvavan biofilmin a-klorofyllin biomassaa mitattiin kuukauden v\u00e4lein BenthoTorch-fluorometrill\u00e4. Viimeisell\u00e4 mittauskerralla puista otettiin raaputusn\u00e4ytteet koko biofilmin tuhkattoman biomassan m\u00e4\u00e4ritt\u00e4miseksi. Suurin biofilmin (a-klorofylli ja tuhkaton) biomassa muodostui kuuseen ja pienin koivuun. Tutkimuksessa k\u00e4ytettyjen puulajien tuoreudella, ei ollut merkitt\u00e4vi\u00e4 vaikutuksia biofilmin muodostumiseen. Biofilmin (a-klorofylli ja tuhkaton) biomassa oli l\u00e4hell\u00e4 pintaa suurempi kuin 50 cm syvyydell\u00e4 vedenpinnasta. Adding wood to water bodies might serve as a natural, cost-effective and largely maintenance-free biological treatment method for the purification of forestry water runoff. Biofilm grows on the wood added into water bodies and presumably binds nutrients. The aim of the Master\u00b4s thesis is to determine whether formation of nutrient binding biofilm on wood surface in aquatic environment depends on the tree species (birch, spruce and pine), freshness of the tree (fresh and a year ago cut tree) and the placement depth (below surface, 50 cm below surface). An experimental study was conducted in the sedimentation pond at the Pyydyssuo Joutsa, between May and September 2019. The biomass of the algae growing on the surfaces was measured monthly, using a BenthoTorch fluorometer. Scratching samples were also taken on the last measurement day to determine the ash free dry mass (AFDM) of the entire biofilm. During the experiment, most biofilm (chl-a and AFDM) was formed on spruce and least on birch. The freshness of wood material used, did not have significant effects on biofilm formation. The biofilm (chl-a and AFDM) was below the surface greater than 50 cm. For the implementation of the biological water treatment method, bark structure of wood should be coarser (spruce and pine) and the tree placement depth below the surface where it is brighter.
