Tarkoituksena oli my\u00f6s selvitt\u00e4\u00e4, millaisia merkityksi\u00e4 luokanopettajat antavat lukutaidolle ja lukemiselle. Lis\u00e4ksi tutkin, mill\u00e4 keinoilla tutkittavat edist\u00e4v\u00e4t innostusta lukemiseen ja tukevat lukutaidon kehittymist\u00e4 kouluissa.\nTutkimuksessa k\u00e4ytettiin kvalitatiivista eli laadullista tutkimusotetta. Tutkimusaineisto ker\u00e4ttiin kev\u00e4\u00e4ll\u00e4 2019 yksil\u00f6haastatteluilla. Tutkimukseen osallistui 12 luokanopettajaa, joista yhdeks\u00e4n oli naisia ja kolme miehi\u00e4. Haastattelut toteutettiin puolistrukturoituina teemahaastatteluina ja aineisto analysoitiin laadullisella sis\u00e4ll\u00f6nanalyysill\u00e4.\nTuloksista ilmeni, ett\u00e4 luokanopettajat antoivat lukutaidolle ja lukemiselle moninaisia merkityksi\u00e4. Haastateltavat tunnistivat lukutaidon ja lukemisen yhteyden yksil\u00f6n kognitiiviselle toimintakyvylle. He totesivat vaikutukset muun muassa min\u00e4k\u00e4sityksen, rentoutumisen, keskittymisen, sosiaalisuuden, kielellisten toimintojen, muistin ja aivojen toiminnan kannalta. Lukemisen ja lukutaidon edist\u00e4misess\u00e4 luokanopettajat kokivat t\u00e4rkeiksi tekij\u00f6iksi opettajan roolin ja luokkatoiminnan, koulun lukemiskulttuurin, kodin sitouttamisen, kirjastot ja niiden palvelutarjonnan, esimerkillisyyden sek\u00e4 tukitoimet.\nTulosten perusteella luokanopettajat kokevat lukemisen ja lukutaidon t\u00e4rke\u00e4ksi. Heid\u00e4n mukaansa lukutaidolla on kiistaton yhteys yksil\u00f6n kognitiiviseen toimintakykyyn. Mit\u00e4 monipuolisemmin opettaja n\u00e4kee lukutaidon merkityksen ja tuntee eri lukemaan innostamisen keinoja, sit\u00e4 paremmin h\u00e4n voi edist\u00e4\u00e4 yksil\u00f6n lukutaidon kehityst\u00e4 ja motivoida h\u00e4nt\u00e4 lukemisen pariin. Lukutaidon merkitykset ja vaatimukset kasvavat jatkuvasti muuttuvassa maailmassa, mik\u00e4 korostaa entisest\u00e4\u00e4n lukemisen t\u00e4rkeytt\u00e4.
