Vaikeuden vaikutus pelikokemukseen

Tässä tutkimuksessa perehdytään videopelien vaikeuden sekä pelikokemuksen yhteyteen. Tutkimuksessa esitellään gameflow-teoriaa, jonka mukaan pelikokemus on hyvä vaikeuden ollessa suhteutettuna pelaajan taitoihin. Vaikeuden todetaan vaikuttavan myös immersioon monella tapaa. Lopussa verrataan dynaamisen ja staattisen vaikeuden eroa ja todetaan dynaamisen olevan monessa tilanteessa ja monille pelaajille parempi. This paper studies the effect that difficulty has on game experience. This study presents gameflow-theory according to which game experience is positive as long as the difficulty of a game is appropriate with the players skill level. This study also goes through different player types and points out how casual players react positively to easier difficulties meanwhile hardcore players do the same with harder ones. It is also stated in this paper that difficulty affects immersion in many ways. Lastly this study compares dynamic difficulty adjusting and static difficulty adjusting concluding that dynamic is often times better for the player base.
