This literature review focuses on the structure and operation of the Tor-network and phenomenons related to it. The thesis focuses on the different layers of the internet, on the structure of the Tor network and on the evolution of the onion routing over the years. The thesis deals also with routing and the difference between Tor and VPN, the legality of the Tor network and its use in oppressed countries.
