DNA:n syntetisointi ja sekvensointi (kirjoittaminen ja lukeminen) on hidasta, mutta DNA:lla on korkea informaatiotiheys ja se säilyy mahdollisesti tuhansia vuosia. Tämä tekee DNA:sta hyödyllisen pitkäaikaisarkistointitarkoituksiin. In this literary review the potential of DNA in computing is discussed. DNA is great for parallel computation in terms of performance speed and energy efficiency, but due to a long initial preparation time and general difficulty in usage, it is no competition to modern computers in most areas. However, logic gates made of DNA have found potential use in virus detection. The synthesis and sequencing (that is, writing and reading) of DNA is slow, but DNA has very high information density and lasts potentially thousands of years, making it useful for long-term archiving purposes.
