Tässä tutkielmassa on tarkoitus kartoittaa, kuinka paljon 3D-pelien tarjoamat mekaniikat ovat laajentuneet, ja mitkä asiat taustalla ovat mahdollistaneet sen. Konkreettisina esimerkkeinä tutkimuksessa käytetään pelejä The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (1998), sekä The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (2017), jotka ovat pelisarjansa ensimmäinen ja viimeisin 3D-peli. This Bachelors’ Thesis will cover the development of game mechanics that are possible within 3D-games’ game worlds in the form of a literary review. 3D-games have made multiple new mechanics possible that previously weren’t possible within 2D-games. This study will map out how and why 3D-mechanics have evolved, and what are the causes that made these developments happen. As a concrete example, the study will focus on two games called The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (1998) and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (2017), which are the same game series’ first and latest 3D-games.
