Tämän lisäksi selvitettiin LoRa-teknlogian eroja muihin langattomiin verkkotekniikoihin ja tehtiin kattavaa yhteenvetoa nykyisin käytettävistä langattomista radioteknologioista keskittyen erityisesti pitkän kantaman LPWAN-verkkoihin. Tämän lisäksi suoritettiin kaksi erillistä LoRa-paikannuksen testausta Kokkolassa ja Turussa keskittyen paikannustarkkuuteen. Tutkimuksessa selvisi, että LoRa-pohjainen paikannus on potentiaalinen vaihtoehto korvaamaan GPS-paikannus sellaisissa tilanteissa, jossa riittää ainoastaan sadan metrin tarkkuudella saavutettu paikannustarkkuus. Tutkimus osoitti myös, että nykyisellään Suomen LoRa-verkossa paikannus onnistuu ainoastaan osassa maata, sillä LoRa-yhdyskäytäviä on liian harvassa paikannusta varten. The Purpose of this abstract was to research if it’s possible to use LoRa-radio and LoRaWAN-network-protocol in positioning. The Study cleared up how LoRaWAN-locationing works and how it can be used in positioning, for example battery-powered devices. In addition to this was investigated differencies between LoRa-technology and other wireless network technologies and was made comprehensive summary about wireless radiotechnologies focusing especially in long-range LPWAN-technologies. In addition to this two separate testing of LoRa-locationing was executed in Kokkola and Turku focusing in positioning accuracy. The study revealed that LoRa-based locationing is potential alternative to replace GPS-locationing in such situations where is enough to locate to within hundred meters. The Study also proved that in nowadays positioning using LoRa-network in Finland can achieved only in parts of the country, because LoRa-gateways are too sparsely relocated for positioning purpose.
