T\u00e4ss\u00e4 tutkimuksessa kartoitettiin ammatillisten perustutkinnon aloittavien nuorten verkossa oppimisen edellytyksi\u00e4, verkko-opiskeluvalmiuksia ja verkko-opiskelussa tarvittavia tukitoimia etnografian keinoin. Tutkimuksen kentt\u00e4vaihe toteutettiin Jyv\u00e4skyl\u00e4n koulutuskuntayhtym\u00e4 Gradiassa (ent. Jyv\u00e4skyl\u00e4n ammattiopisto) lukuvuotena 2016\u20122017. Kentt\u00e4vaiheessa viisi opiskelijaryhm\u00e4\u00e4 (otos = 53 opiskelijaa) opiskeli silloisen opetussuunnitelman mukaista \u00c4idinkieli 1 -kurssia l\u00e4hiopetuksessa, monimuotoisesti ja verkossa. Aineistoa johdettiin kyselyist\u00e4, opiskelijoiden haastatteluista, kentt\u00e4muistiinpanoista ja kurssiarvioinneista. Aineistosta nousevia tutkimuskysymyksiin liittyvi\u00e4 asioita tutkittiin oppimisen edellytysten ja opiskeluvalmiuksien teoreettisessa viitekehyksess\u00e4 ja pyrittiin etnografisen tutkimuksen mukaisesti tihe\u00e4\u00e4n kuvaukseen verkossa opiskelemisesta. Verkossa oppimisen edellytyksiksi listattiin opiskelijan riitt\u00e4v\u00e4t ajanhallintataidot, opiskelumotivaatio, min\u00e4pystyvyys, opiskelussa tarvittavat IT-taidot ja erilaiset tukimuodot. Opiskelijoiden verkko-opiskeluvalmiuksien todettiin olevan vaihtelevat erinomaisista valmiuksista riitt\u00e4m\u00e4tt\u00f6miin valmiuksiin. Valtaosalla otoksesta n\u00e4ytt\u00e4isi kuitenkin olevan ainakin jonkinlaiset valmiudet opiskella ainakin osittain verkossa, kunhan riitt\u00e4vist\u00e4 tukitoimista pidet\u00e4\u00e4n huolta. In this thesis, conditions of online learning, readiness to study online and the measures of support needed in online studying among young first year vo-cational school students, are surveyed by means of ethnography. The field phase was im-plemented in Jyv\u00e4skyl\u00e4 Educational Consortium Gradia in school year 2016\u20122017. Dur-ing the field phase, five groups of students (sample = 53) were studying Finnish language and literature 1 -course either face-to-face, multi-modally or online by the curriculum of that time. The data was deduced from surveys, student interviews, field notes and course evaluations. The issues that rose from the data were examined in the theoretical frame-work of the conditions of learning and study-readiness, and according to ethnographic research, the research aimed to reach \u201cthick description\u201d of online studying. As the condi-tions of online learning were listed sufficient time management skills, study motivation, self-efficacy, information technology skills needed in studying of a learner and different measures of support. The online study readiness of students was found to be ranging from excellent to insufficient readiness. Most of the students however seem to have somewhat sufficient readiness to study at least partially online, as long as the measures of support are adequate.
