Målet med undersökningen var att kartlägga finländska 9-klassisters fysiska aktivitet och videospelsvanor, samt undersöka sambandet mellan dessa faktorer. Dessutom undersöktes skillnader mellan flickor och pojkar inom dessa. Undersökningsmaterialet samlades in våren 2019 med hjälp av ett frågeformulär. Finländska ungdomar representerades av 92 stycken 9-klassister (42 pojkar, 48 flickor) från 3 olika finskspråkiga skolor. Materialet analyserades med statistikprogrammet IBM SPSS Statistics 24 och analyser som användes var Pearsons korrelationsanalys, korstabulering och chi square -testet samt t-testen paired samples och independent samples. Få finländska 9-klassister rör på sig tillräckligt och endast 13 % uppfyller de nationella rekommendationerna för hälsofrämjande fysisk aktivitet. Under vardagar spenderar cirka 30 % av 9-klassisterna över 2 timmar på videospelande och hälften av ungdomarna spelar över 2 timmar på helgdagar. Pojkar spelar betydligt mer än flickor (t-test p <,001). Pojkarnas videospelande och fysiska aktivitet korrelerade inte med varandra. Det fanns dock en negativ korrelation (r=-,50 p <,001) mellan flickornas fysiska aktivitet och tiden spenderad på videospel under vardagar. Man bör undvika att granska de passiva skärmaktiviteterna och fysiska aktiviteten som myntets två sidor, eftersom de båda kan existera parallellt (Pearson m.fl. 2014). Videospelandet kan vara problematisk för både flickor och pojkar i årskurs 9. Pojkarnas tid spenderad på videospel tenderar att vara hög vilket bidrar till mycket stillasittande medan de flickor som spelar mycket riskerar att dessutom ha väldigt låg fysisk aktivitet. Skärmtids- eller speltidsbegränsningar är en möjlighet för ungdomar och fostrare att kontrollera att tiden som spenderas framför skärmen hålls rimlig. Videogaming has become an extremely popular activity among the youth (Kinnunen, Lilja & Mäyrä 2018), whereas at the same time Finnish 15-year-olds spends a concerning little amount of time as physically active (Kokko et al. 2018). The main purpose with the study was to research the Finnish ninth-grade students physical activity and videogaming habits, as well as the association between these factors. In addition, differences between boys and girls were examined in these subjects. The data was obtained via a questionnaire during the spring of 2019. The Finnish adolescents were represented by 92 students (42 boys, 48 girls) from 3 different schools. The data was analysed with the statistical program IBM SPSS Statistics 24 and analysis used were Pearson correlation analysis, Chi square test and t-test (paired samples and independent samples). According to this study, only 13 % of ninth-grade students meet the recommendations for healthy amount of physical activity. During weekdays about 30 % of the ninth-graders spend more than 2 hours on videogaming and on weekends the number goes up to 50 %. Boys are significantly more active players than girls (t-test p < ,001). However, the correlation between videogaming and physical activity was not significant amongst boys. On the other hand, there was a significant negative correlation (,50 p < ,001) between girls physical activity and time spent on videogaming during week days. The association between videogaming and physical activity cannot be seen as two sides of a coin, since they both can exist independently (Pearson et al. 2014). Videogaming can be problematic for both genders. Boys tend to play a lot which puts them in risk for health deficits caused by sedentary behaviour. Girls who play a lot seems to also have very low levels of physical activity. Screen time restrictions is a possibility for adolescents and upbringers to control the amount of time spent on videogaming.
