Samalla selvitet\u00e4\u00e4n opettajien ajatuksia ja ty\u00f6k\u00e4yt\u00e4nt\u00f6j\u00e4 liittyen ulkoymp\u00e4rist\u00f6jen hy\u00f6dynt\u00e4miseen ja pohditaan kulttuurin merkityst\u00e4 n\u00e4ihin opettajien ajatuksiin koskien ulkoymp\u00e4rist\u00f6jen k\u00e4ytt\u00f6mahdollisuuksia. Yhteiskunnan toimintaperiaatteet, opettajan teht\u00e4v\u00e4nkuva ja k\u00e4yt\u00e4nn\u00f6nty\u00f6n tarkastelu loivat puitteet holistiselle l\u00e4hestymistavalle opettajana havainnoidessani n\u00e4iden kahden kaupungin ulkona tapahtuvan toiminnan yht\u00e4l\u00e4isyyksi\u00e4 ja eroavaisuuksia. Tutkimukseni keskittyy erityisesti rakennetun ymp\u00e4rist\u00f6n ja luonnonymp\u00e4rist\u00f6n tarkasteluun.\r\nLaadullinen kulttuurien v\u00e4linen tutkimukseni on toteutettu etnografisia l\u00e4ht\u00f6kohtia noudattaen vuosien 2018\u20132019 aikana. Aineistonkeruumenetelmin\u00e4 toimivat kysely, haastattelu sek\u00e4 havainnointijaksot osassa p\u00e4iv\u00e4kodeista. Kaikkiaan kuusi p\u00e4iv\u00e4kotia osallistuivat kyselyyn sek\u00e4 haastatteluun. Havainnointia toteutettiin kahdessa p\u00e4iv\u00e4kodissa Lontoossa ja yhdess\u00e4 p\u00e4iv\u00e4kodissa Helsingiss\u00e4, yhteens\u00e4 kahden vuoden ajan. Aineisto analysoitiin temaattista analyysia hy\u00f6dynt\u00e4en.\r\nTutkimuksessani kulttuuriset ymp\u00e4rist\u00f6t erosivat toisistaan ulkona j\u00e4rjestett\u00e4v\u00e4n pedagogiikan suhteen, sill\u00e4 Lontoossa opettajat hy\u00f6dynsiv\u00e4t lasten kanssa kaupunkiymp\u00e4rist\u00f6j\u00e4. Helsingiss\u00e4 opettajat taas suosivat luonnonymp\u00e4rist\u00f6j\u00e4. Kuitenkaan kumpaakaan n\u00e4ist\u00e4 ymp\u00e4rist\u00f6ist\u00e4 ei tulisi suosia ylitse toisen vaan tiedostaa edut, joita molemmilla ymp\u00e4rist\u00f6ill\u00e4 on tarjota lapselle. T\u00e4ss\u00e4 tutkimuksessa t\u00e4rke\u00e4n\u00e4 pedagogisena l\u00e4hestymistapana ilmeni lasten osallistumisen mahdollistaminen ulkona tapahtuvan pedagogisen toiminnan suunnitteluun ja toteuttamiseen. While exploring teachers\u2019 practices when utilizing the outdoor environments, I consider the role of culture when shaping teachers\u2019 approach and thinking towards opportunities they offer children in outdoor environments. My work experience as educator in these two cities and my personal observations on these two societies and cultures enabled a holistic perspective to compare the cultural differences and similarities of outdoor pedagogy in these two cities. One of the main themes in this research, is exploring the built and natural environments children experience during the daycare day. \r\nTo research this area, this qualitative cross-cultural research was implemented \u2013 alongside a series of insights drawn from an ethnographic study \u2013 during the years 2018\u20132019. Data from this research is gathered through survey, interview and observation periods in the daycare centres. In total, six daycare centres participated in this research through surveys and inter-views. The observation period was implemented in two nurseries in London and one in Helsinki, taking altogether two years. The data was brought to life through a thematic analysis.\r\nIn my research, the cultural environments differed from each other regarding the pedagogy arranged in the cities. In early childhood education in London, teachers utilized the urban environments when in Helsinki, teachers preferred the natural ones. Neither of these \r\nenvironments or approaches outweighs the other - given that both outdoor environments offer important learning opportunities for children. A particularly important outcome of the study that emerged was the pedagogical approach where children were integrated for the planning of the activities and trip destinations taking place in outdoor environments as co-creators with the teachers.
