Tutkielman kohteena olivat nelja\u0308n Keski-Suomen lukion opiskelijat. Aineisto kera\u0308ttiin marraskuun 2018 ja helmikuun 2019 va\u0308lisena\u0308 aikana. Fyysista\u0308 aktiivisuutta selvitettiin kyselylomakkeella ja a\u0308lypuhelimen ka\u0308ytto\u0308a\u0308 mobiilisovelluksella, joka mittasi a\u0308lypuhelimen ka\u0308ytto\u0308a\u0308. Tutkimukseen osallistui 105 opiskelijaa. Analyysimenetelmina\u0308 ka\u0308ytettiin ristiintaulukointia, khiin nelio\u0308-testia\u0308 (\u03c72), t-testia\u0308, parittaisten otosten t-testia\u0308, Pearsonin korrelaatiokerrointa, Kruskal-Wallisin testia\u0308 ja lokaalia regressiomallia.\n\nLukiolaisten fyysinen aktiivisuus oli va\u0308ha\u0308ista\u0308 riippumatta sukupuolesta tai ia\u0308sta\u0308. Vastaavasti a\u0308lypuhelimen ka\u0308ytto\u0308 oli runsasta seka\u0308 miehilla\u0308 etta\u0308 naisilla kaikissa ika\u0308ryhmissa\u0308. Tutkimukseen osallistuneista lukiolaisista ainoastaan 11,5 prosenttia liikkui va\u0308hinta\u0308a\u0308n tunnin seitsema\u0308na\u0308 pa\u0308iva\u0308na\u0308 viikossa ja a\u0308lypuhelinta ka\u0308ytettiin keskima\u0308a\u0308rin 4 tuntia ja 40 minuuttia vuorokaudessa. Vastaajista kolmannes ka\u0308ytti a\u0308lypuhelinta yli kuusi ja puoli tuntia vuorokaudessa. Suosituimmat sovellukset olivat sosiaalisen median palveluita ja niista\u0308 ajallisesti eniten ka\u0308ytetyin sovellus oli Snapchat, jota ka\u0308ytettiin keskima\u0308a\u0308rin la\u0308hes kaksi tuntia vuorokaudessa. A\u0308lypuhelimen runsaampi arkika\u0308ytto\u0308 oli yhteydessa\u0308 va\u0308ha\u0308isempa\u0308a\u0308n fyysiseen aktiivisuuteen tavallisella viikolla koko tutkimusjoukkoa tarkasteltaessa (p=0,047). Erityisesti naisopiskelijat, jotka ka\u0308yttiva\u0308t a\u0308lypuhelinta enemma\u0308n, liikkuivat va\u0308hemma\u0308n seka\u0308 kyselya\u0308 edelta\u0308va\u0308lla\u0308 (p=0,030) etta\u0308 tavallisella viikolla (p=0,017). Myo\u0308s 15\u201316-vuotiailla runsaampi a\u0308lypuhelimen arkika\u0308ytto\u0308 oli seka\u0308 edellisen (p=0,026) etta\u0308 tavallisen (p=0,002) viikon aikana yhteydessa\u0308 va\u0308ha\u0308isempa\u0308a\u0308n fyysiseen aktiivisuuteen. Samalla ika\u0308ryhma\u0308lla\u0308 runsaampi a\u0308lypuhelimen viikonloppuka\u0308ytto\u0308 va\u0308hensi fyysista\u0308 aktiivisuutta seka\u0308 edellisen (p=0,039) etta\u0308 tavallisen viikon (p=0,009) aikana. Koko tutkimusjoukkoa tarkasteltaessa havaittiin, etta\u0308 fyysinen aktiivisuus ka\u0308a\u0308ntyi laskuun opiskelijoilla, jotka ka\u0308yttiva\u0308t a\u0308lypuhelinta yli viisi ja puoli tuntia vuorokaudessa ja naisopiskelijoilla jo nelja\u0308n tunnin ja kymmenen minuutin a\u0308lypuhelimen ka\u0308yto\u0308n ja\u0308lkeen.\n\nA\u0308lypuhelimen ka\u0308yto\u0308n ja fyysisen aktiivisuuden va\u0308lilla\u0308 ollut yhteys oli mielenkiintoinen, silla\u0308 aiemmissa kyselytutkimuksissa ei ole lo\u0308ydetty yhteytta\u0308 a\u0308lypuhelimen ka\u0308yto\u0308n ja fyysisen aktiivisuuden va\u0308lille (Barkley ym. 2014; Barkley & Lepp 2016; Fennel ym. 2019). The participants in the study were students from four high schools in Central Finland. The data was collected between November 2018 and February 2019. Physical activity was measured by a questionnaire and smartphone use was measured by a mobile app that recorded the usage of the smartphone. 105 high school students took part in the study. The data was analysed in spring 2019 using crosstabulation, chi-squared (\u03c72) test, t-tests, Pearson correlation coefficient, Kruskal-Wallis test and local regression model.\n\nThe high school students\u2019 physical activity was low regardless of gender or age. Similarly, smartphone use was high among both men and women in all age groups. Of the high school students who participated in the study, only 11.5 percent were physically active for at least an hour seven days a week, and they used their smartphone for an average of 4 hours and 40 minutes a day. One third of the respondents used their smartphone for more than six and a half hours a day. The most popular apps were social media services, with Snapchat being the most frequently used app in terms of time, with an average use of more than two hours a day. Higher daily smartphone use was associated with lower physical activity during the usual week across the study population (p = 0.047). In particular, female students who used their smartphones more were less physically active during both the week before the questionnaire (p = 0.030) and during a regular week (p = 0.017). Also, in the ages of 15\u201316, an increased daily use of a smartphone was associated with less physical activity during both the previous (p = 0.026) and regular (p = 0.002) weeks. In the same age group, a higher smartphone use during the weekend decreased physical activity during both the previous (p = 0.039) and regular week (p = 0.009). When examining the entire study population, it was found that physical activity started to decline in students who used their smartphones for more than five and a half hours a day and in female students who used their smartphones for more than four hours and ten minutes.\n\nThe relationship between smartphone use and physical activity was interesting, as previous questionnaires have not proved a relationship between smartphone use and physical activity (Barkley et al. 2014; Barkley & Lepp 2016; Fennel et al. 2019).
