Tehokas oppiminen edellyttää erityisesti aloittelijalta palautteen saamista ja kykyä arvioida omia suorituksiaan. Opetuksen tehostamiseksi on tarvetta tutkia minkälaisilla opetusmenetelmillä saavutetaan parhaita tuloksia. Tämän tutkimuksen tarkoituksena oli selvittää kahden golfiin liittyvän opetusmenetelmän tehokkuutta aloitteleville pelaajille. Menetelmät olivat tehtäväopetus ja video-opetus. Menetelmiä sovellettiin golfin yhdessä peruslyönneistä, chip-lyönnissä. Tutkimukseen osallistui kuusi Kalajokilaakso Golfin alkeiskurssille osallistunutta henkilöä, joille tutkimuksen tekijä opetti golfin alkeet. Opetusjakso testeineen kesti kuukauden, jonka aikana kurssilaisten oppimista mitattiin neljällä aiheeseen soveltuvalla testillä. Testit olivat chippi nurmelta, chippi kovalta alustalta, chippi esteen yli ja chippi silmät kiinni.Tutkimuksessa selvitettiin oppimisen etenemistä video- opetusryhmässä ja tehtävä- opetusryhmässä. Lisäksi tutkija-opettaja havannoi toimintaa ja piti päiväkirjaa. Kaikkien kurssilaisten chip-lyönti kehittyi neljän viikon aikana huomattavasti. Kummankin ryhmän testitulokset kehittyivät lineaarisesti ja ryhmien välinen testitulosten kokonaispistemäärä ero video-opetusryhmän hyväksi säilyi saman suuruisena. Neljässä eri testipisteessä syntyi ryhmissä eroavaisuuksia, joista merkittävimmät olivat silmät kiinni lyödessä ja esteen ylittämisessä. Silmät kiinni testauspaikalla tehtäväopetusryhmä sai kehitystä lähtötasoon verratuna erityisen paljon; 0,7 pisteestä 8 pisteeseen. Myös video- opetusryhmä kehittyi paljon; 2 pisteestä 9 pisteeseen. Esteen ylittämisessä video-opetusryhmä onnistui säilyttämään alkutestissä havaitun johtonsa myös lopputesteissä suvereenisti. Huomion arvoista tällä suorituspaikalla oli, että pallo oli saatava lyönnissä ilmaan ja näin ollen onnistuneen ja epäonnistuneen lyönnin ero korostui. Näin ollen onnen osuus tuloksessa pieneni.Tutkija-opettajan havaintojen mukaan monet muutkin tekijät, kuten ryhmän yhteishenki ja kannustus olivat yhteydessä oppimiseen ja testitilanteissa toimimiseen. Tämän lyhyen opetus- ja tutkimusjakson perusteella voidaan todeta, että menetelmien vertailua voisi olla hedelmällistä tutkia laajemmalla otoksella ja mahdollisesti pidemmällä aikavälillä. Tässä tutkimuksessa sekä video-opetus että tehtäväopetus osoittautuivat tehokkaiksi opetusmenetelmiksi. Golf is skill demanding sport. Already playing golf on a basic level requires a lot of eye – hand coordniation skills. A player has to master technicallly different kind of golf strikes. Teaching golf starts usually by teaching basic skills. A player learns through practice the different strikes, but with help of teacher and for example watching videos of own practicing, it is possible to achive results in shorter time period. An efficient learning, especially for beginners, is reached with feedback and capability to eavaluate own performance. Therefore it is important to study what teaching methods are giving best results. This study aimed at finding out which of the chosen two methods of teaching would be more efficient for beginner players in golf. The methods of teaching chosen were teachning through guided exercises and through video-lesson.Teaching methods where applied in one of the basic strikes, in chip. There were six participants to this study. They participated to golf beginners course in Kalajokilaakso Golf and the researcher was teaching them. The teaching period lasted one month during which the learning was measured with four different tests. These applicable tests were chip from grass, chip from hard surface, chip over an hurdle and chip with blinded eyes. The study aimed to find out learning progress in video teaching group and in practice teaching group. Besides this the researcher was observing the groups and keeping diary. During the four weeks study, the skills of participants in chip strike developed remarkably. The test results of both groups developed in linear way and the difference between the groups stayed steady. There were differences between the groups at the four different test points, the most significant of which were in striking with eyes blinded and in chipping over an hurdle. With the eyes blinded at the test site, the test group taughed with guided exercises received a lot of progress compared to the baseline; From 0.7 to 8 points. The video teaching group also developed a lot; 2 points to 9 points. In the test about chipping over an hurdle, the video training team managed to retain its lead in the initial test, even in the final tests. Noteworthy at this execution site was that the ball had to be hit in the air and thus the difference between a successful and a failed shot was accentuated. As a result, many other factors, such as team spirit and encouragement, were associated with learning and acting in test situations. Based on this short period of teaching and research, it could be fruitful to investigate method comparisons over a larger sample and possibly over a longer period. In this study, both video and guided exercise teaching methods proved to be effective teaching methods.
