N\u00e4m\u00e4 mahdollistetaan laadukkaan opetuksen ja opinto-ohjauksen kautta. Moni lukiolainen kuitenkin kokee, ettei t\u00e4m\u00e4n hetkinen lukiokoulutus tue riitt\u00e4v\u00e4sti jatko-opintoihin siirtymist\u00e4. Jatko-opintoihin siirrytty\u00e4\u00e4n osa opiskelijoista yll\u00e4ttyy opintojen haastavuudesta ja rakenteesta. Omaa osaamistasoa ei pidet\u00e4 korkeakouluopintojen\nkannalta riitt\u00e4v\u00e4n\u00e4. Heikko osaamistaso hidastaa opinnoissa etenemist\u00e4 ja pahimmassa tapauksessa johtaa opintojen keskeytt\u00e4miseen. Opiskelijat kaipaavat yksityiskohtaisempaa tietoa korkeakoulussa opiskelusta, eri koulutusaloista sek\u00e4 oppiainevalinnoista, jotka tukevat jatko-opinnoissa opiskelua. T\u00e4ss\u00e4 tutkimuksessa selvitettiin millainen vaikutus lukiossa tehdyill\u00e4 oppiainevalinnoilla ja opintojen aikana saadulla opinto-ohjauksella on siihen, millainen k\u00e4sitys bio- ja ymp\u00e4rist\u00f6tieteiden opinnot aloittavalla opiskelijalla on opintojen rakenteesta ja omista opiskeluvalmiuksistaan. Lis\u00e4ksi tutkimuksessa seurattiin, muuttuiko k\u00e4sitys omasta opiskeluvalmiudesta ensimm\u00e4isen lukuvuoden aikana. Tutkimukseen valikoitui Jyv\u00e4skyl\u00e4n yliopistossa lukuvuonna 2018 bio- ja ymp\u00e4rist\u00f6tieteiden opinnot aloittaneet p\u00e4\u00e4aineopiskelijat. Osallistuneita oli yhteens\u00e4 55. Tutkimus toteutettiin s\u00e4hk\u00f6isen\u00e4 kyselyn\u00e4. Saatuja tuloksia analysoitiin k\u00e4ytt\u00e4en kvalitatiivisia ja kvantitatiivisia menetelmi\u00e4. Tulokset osoittivat, ett\u00e4 bio- ja ymp\u00e4rist\u00f6tieteiden opintoihin siirtyv\u00e4t\nopiskelijat suosivat lukio-opinnoissa oppiaineita, joista heid\u00e4n mielest\u00e4\u00e4n on hy\u00f6ty\u00e4 jatko-opinnoissa. N\u00e4it\u00e4 ovat biologia, kemia ja pitk\u00e4 matematiikka. Kyseisist\u00e4 oppiaineista suoritettujen kemian kurssien lukum\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4ll\u00e4 havaittiin olevan yhteytt\u00e4 siihen, millaisena opiskelija koki oman opiskeluvalmiuden ja yliopisto-opintoihin siirtymisen. Ne opiskelijat, jotka suorittivat vain kemian pakollisen oppim\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4n, kokivat muihin opiskelijoihin verrattuna oman osaamistasonsa riitt\u00e4m\u00e4tt\u00f6m\u00e4n\u00e4 ja\nensimm\u00e4isen lukuvuoden opinnot haastavana. Kyseiset opiskelijat kaipasivat tarkempaa tietoa koulutusalan rakenteesta sek\u00e4 opiskelua tukevista oppiaineista. T\u00e4m\u00e4n ja aikaisempien tutkimusten perusteella lukiolaisille tulisi opinto-ohjauksessa tarjota lis\u00e4\u00e4 tietoa koulutusalojen tutkintorakenteista ja korostaa millainen merkitys lukion aikana tehdyill\u00e4 oppiainevalinnoilla on jatko-opintojen kannalta. These are offered through quality teaching and study guidance. However, many high school students currently feel that they do not receive enough support for the transition to postgraduate studies. Students claim that standards are too high and they don\u2019t meet their level of competence. This makes studying challenging, slowing down the\nprogress of their studies and in the worst case leading to termination. Students desire improvement especially in study guidance. More information is required in the structure of different postgraduate studies and high school subjects that support the transitioning. This study investigated if study guidance and studying certain high school subjects had an impact on how students starting their bio- and environmental science studies felt about the study programs structure and their\nreadiness to study. This study was conducted as an electronic questionnaire. The questionnaire was handed out to first year biology and environmental science students at the University of Jyv\u00e4skyl\u00e4, during the academic year 2018. The total number of participants was 55. The results were analysed using qualitative and quantitative methods. This study revealed that during high school, biological and environmental science students favour subjects that support their postgraduate\nstudies. These are biology, chemistry and advanced mathematics. The results also showed that especially in chemistry, the number of courses taken during high school have an impact on the student\u2019s readiness to study. The more courses taken, the better was the students transition to university studies. Those students who completed only the compulsory course of chemistry felt that their level of knowledge was inadequate compared to other students. Similar results were not found in the other subjects that students favoured during high school. As in previous studies, students who struggled during their first academic year would\nhave hoped for more detailed information on the structure of the studies and on high school subjects that would have supported their postgraduate studies.
