Työn tutkimusongelmana oli selvittää sopiiko pitkän kantaman LoRa teknologia vanhusten paikantamiseen asunnon ulkopuolella. Tutkimus suoritettiin testauksena, jossa testattiin kolme erilaista paikantamislaitetta kahdella erilaisella kävelyreitillä, jotka sijaitsevat Turussa ja Salossa. Näiden kahden paikan lisäksi suoritettiin radiokantaman testaus Liedossa. Laitteista testattiin vaatimuksina ominaisuuksia, kuten kuuluvuus, tarkkuus, akun kesto, laitteen lataus ja kannettavuus. Saatujen tulosten perusteella arvioitiin, täyttivätkö laitteet annetut vaatimukset. Tutkimuksella voitiin osoittaa, että kaksi laitteista täytti annetut vaatimukset. Tämän lisäksi LoRa-verkon avulla tapahtuva paikantaminen toimii hyvin, jos kaupungin tarjoaman LoRa-verkon tukiasemien määrä on riittävän tiheä. Smart home solutions are seen from healthcare perspective. In addition smart home wireless data transfer technologies are discussed. In the empirical part task is to find out, is it possible to integrate the task of locating the elderly suffering from memory loss into the Kokkola Sote-area smart house solution. Research problem was to find out, is LoRa suitable technology to locate the elderly suffering from memory loss outside their home area. The study was carried out as test, where three different locating devices were tested in two different walking routes, one located in Turku and other located in Salo. In addition to these two places, one more radio range test was carried out in Lieto. The tested properties of devices were received signal strength, accuracy, battery life, battery charge and easy to carry. The results were assessed and devices were evaluated according to tested properties. The study demonstrated functionality of two devices that fulfilled tested properties. In order to have well functioning LoRa network, where you are able to locate target with LoRa, city needs to have correct amount of LoRa gateways and placement of LoRa gateways needs to be dense enough.
