Sedentaarisuus lisa\u0308a\u0308 itsena\u0308isesti kroonisten elintapasairauksien, kuten metabolisen oireyhtyma\u0308n (MBO) riskia\u0308 seka\u0308 nostaa yleista\u0308 kuolleisuusriskia\u0308. Viime vuosien epidemiologinen na\u0308ytto\u0308 on osoittanut sedentaarisuuden olevan terveysriski siita\u0308kin huolimatta, etta\u0308 etta\u0308 henkilo\u0308 ta\u0308ytta\u0308isi nykyiset liikuntasuositukset. Yli 60-vuotiaat aikuiset ovat kaikista inaktiivisin ja korkeasti sedentaarisin ika\u0308luokka ja ovat siten suurin riskiryhma\u0308 sairastua elintapasairauksiin. Tutkimuksen tarkoituksena oli selvitta\u0308a\u0308 objektiivisesti mitatun sedentaarisuusaajan yhteytta\u0308 metabolisen oireyhtyma\u0308n riskitekijo\u0308ihin seka\u0308 tarkastella liikunta- aktiivisuuden yhteytta\u0308 metabolisen oireyhtyma\u0308n riskitekijo\u0308ihin sedentaarisuusaika huomioiden.\nTutkimus on osa osa monivuotista REACT (Enhancing physical activity and healthy aging among recent retirees) -interventiotutkimusta, jossa tutkittavat olivat aikava\u0308lilla\u0308 01/2017- 12/2018 kunta-alalta ela\u0308ko\u0308ityneita\u0308 Varsinais-Suomessa asuvia naisia (n = 149) ja miehia\u0308 (n = 32). Sedentaarisuusaikaa mitattiin objektiivisesti ranteessa pidetta\u0308va\u0308lla\u0308 kiihtyvyysmittarilla pera\u0308tta\u0308isten kahdeksan pa\u0308iva\u0308n ja seitsema\u0308n yo\u0308n ajan. Alkumittausten yhteydessa\u0308 tutkittavilta mitattiin verenpaine ja vyo\u0308ta\u0308ro\u0308nympa\u0308rys seka\u0308 paastoverina\u0308ytteella\u0308 kokonaiskolesteroli, HDL, LDL, triglyseridit seka\u0308 paastoglukoosi metabolisten terveysmarkkereiden ma\u0308a\u0308ritta\u0308miseksi. Fyysista\u0308 aktiivisuutta selvitettiin vapaa-ajan liikunta-aktiivisuutta ma\u0308a\u0308ritta\u0308va\u0308lla\u0308 subjektiivisella kyselylla\u0308.\nTulokset osoittivat, etta\u0308 objektiivisesti mitattu sedentaarisuusaika oli yhteydessa\u0308 MBO:n esiintyvyyteen (p<0,001) tutkittavilla ja korkea sedentaarisuusaika oli merkitseva\u0308sti yhteydessa\u0308 kaikkiin muihin MBO:n riskitekijo\u0308ihin, paitsi systoliseen verenpaineeseen ja kohonneeseen paastoglukoosiin. Sedentaarisuusajan kasvu oli yhteydessa\u0308 MBO:n riskitekijo\u0308iden arvojen heikkenemiseen, jolloin riskitekija\u0308n esiintyvyys oli todenna\u0308ko\u0308isempa\u0308a\u0308. Tulokset osoittivat myo\u0308s, etta\u0308 objektiivisesti mitatut sedentaarisuusajat olivat alhaisempia paljon liikkuvilla (>30 MET) verraten va\u0308ha\u0308n liikkuviin (<30 MET). Merkitseva\u0308 yhteys (p<0,05) oli havaittavissa va\u0308ha\u0308n liikkuvien ryhma\u0308n sedentaarisuuden vaikutuksesta kohonneeseen glukoosiin, matalaan HDL:a\u0308a\u0308n ja MBO:n esiintyvyyteen seka\u0308 paljon liikkuvien ryhma\u0308ssa\u0308 vyo\u0308ta\u0308ro\u0308nympa\u0308rykseen. Tulosten perusteella liikunta-aktiivisuudella oli vaikutusta seka\u0308 sedentaarisuusaikoihin, etta\u0308 MBO:n riskitekijo\u0308iden esiintyvyyteen. Ta\u0308ma\u0308n tutkimuksen tulosten perusteella voitaneenkin sanoa, etta\u0308 va\u0308ha\u0308n liikkuvilla (<30 MET) sedentaarisuusajan kasvu korreloi MBO:n riskitekijo\u0308iden esiintyvyyteen, kun taas paljon liikkuvien ryhma\u0308ssa\u0308 sedentaarisuusajan kasvun haittavaikutus oli paljon lievempi.", "language": "fi", "element": "description", "qualifier": "abstract", "schema": "dc"}, {"key": "dc.description.abstract", "value": "We live in a society where sedentary behavior is ever-present in our every day life at work, school and home. High amounts of sedentary behaviour have been associated with increased risks of several chronic conditions including metabolic syndrome and mortality. Recently, epimological studies have proved that the detrimental effects of prolonged sitting stay even though physical activity recommendations would be met. The population aged 60 years or over is known to be both the most inactive and most sedentary group. Therefore, they have the highest risk for chronic lifestyle diseseas. The aim of this study was to objectively measure subjects\u2019 daily sedentary time and investigate its relationship with the risk factors of metabolic syndrome. Additionally, the aim was to explore how physical activity affects participants\u2019 sedentary time and relationship to metabolic syndrome.\nThis research is part of the multiyear intervention study REACT (Enhancing physical activity and healthy aging among recent retirees) and the participants were recently retired municipality workers (n = 149 female and n = 32 men). Their sedentary time was measured with wristheld accelerometer for consecutive eight days and seven nights. Level of physical activity was measured subjectively using self-reported questions. Sedentary time\u2019s associations with waist circumference, resting blood pressure, triglycerides, HDL cholesterol, fasting plasma glucose, and a clustered metabolic risk score were examined. The metabolic syndrome was defined by using the definition from the National Cholesterol Education Program.\nThe results showed that accelometer-measured sedentary time is associated with metabolic syndrome (p<0.001). Also, high time spent sedentary was associated with all the other metabolic syndrome components except systolic blood pressure and fasting plasma glucose. The increase of sedentary time was associated with the weakening of the values of metabolic syndrome components. Hence, the likehood to have metabolic syndrome increased. Additionally, the accelerometer-measured sedentary times were lower in the physically active group (>30 MET) compared with the non physically active group (<30 MET). Statistically significant association (p<0.05) could also be found between sedentary time of the non physically active group with HDL cholesterol, fasting plasma glucose and metabolic syndrome and with waist circumference in the physically active group.
