Aamiainen sy\u00f6d\u00e4\u00e4n yleens\u00e4 kotona ja t\u00e4m\u00e4n takia on t\u00e4rke\u00e4\u00e4 selvitt\u00e4\u00e4, miten perheymp\u00e4rist\u00f6 on yhteydess\u00e4 nuorten aamiaisen sy\u00f6miseen. Perheymp\u00e4rist\u00f6ll\u00e4 t\u00e4ss\u00e4 tutkimuksessa tarkoitetaan perheen kommunikaatiota, perheen antamaa tukea sek\u00e4 s\u00e4\u00e4nt\u00f6j\u00e4 ja valvontaa perheess\u00e4.\r\nT\u00e4m\u00e4 pro gradu -tutkielma koostuu kahdesta osasta: kirjallisuuskatsauksesta ja artikkelik\u00e4sikirjoituksesta. Kirjallisuuskatsauksessa tarkasteltiin j\u00e4rjestelm\u00e4lliseen tiedonhakuun perustuen aiempia tutkimuksia perheymp\u00e4rist\u00f6n yhteydest\u00e4 nuorten aamiaisen sy\u00f6miseen. Mukaan valikoitiin alkuper\u00e4istutkimukset (n = 15), joissa k\u00e4siteltiin perheen kommunikaatiota, perheen antamaa tukea, s\u00e4\u00e4nt\u00f6j\u00e4, vanhempien valvontaa, perheen koheesiota, perheen toimivuutta sek\u00e4 vanhemmuuden tyylej\u00e4. Tutkimukset osoittivat perheymp\u00e4rist\u00f6n olevan yhteydess\u00e4 nuorten aamiaisen sy\u00f6miseen. Tutkimuksissa oli kuitenkin selvitetty eri tekij\u00f6it\u00e4 ja k\u00e4ytetty eri mittareita, mink\u00e4 vuoksi tulosten vertailu on vaikeaa. Ainoastaan perheen sy\u00f6miseen liittyvi\u00e4 s\u00e4\u00e4nt\u00f6j\u00e4 oli tutkittu useammassa tutkimuksessa, joista kuudessa kahdeksasta tutkimuksesta s\u00e4\u00e4nt\u00f6jen ja aamiaisen sy\u00f6misen v\u00e4lill\u00e4 havaittiin positiivinen yhteys. Yht\u00e4k\u00e4\u00e4n tutkimusta, joka olisi sis\u00e4lt\u00e4nyt niin perheen kommunikaation, tuen, s\u00e4\u00e4nt\u00f6jen kuin valvonnan tarkastelua yhdess\u00e4, ei j\u00e4rjestelm\u00e4llisen tiedonhaun perusteella l\u00f6ytynyt.\r\nArtikkelik\u00e4sikirjoitus on alkuper\u00e4istutkimus, jonka tarkoituksena oli selvitt\u00e4\u00e4, miten perheymp\u00e4rist\u00f6 (kommunikaatio, perheen antama tuki, s\u00e4\u00e4nn\u00f6t ja valvonta perheess\u00e4) on yhteydess\u00e4 13- ja 15-vuotiaiden nuorten p\u00e4ivitt\u00e4iseen aamiaisen sy\u00f6miseen. Tutkimusaineistona k\u00e4ytettiin kyselyvastauksia (n = 3853) Suomessa toteutetusta WHO-Koululaistutkimuksesta vuodelta 2014. Tilastollisina menetelmin\u00e4 olivat ristiintaulukointi, \u03c72-riippumattomuustesti ja bin\u00e4\u00e4rinen logistinen regressioanalyysi. P\u00e4ivitt\u00e4isen aamiaisen sy\u00f6misen todenn\u00e4k\u00f6isyytt\u00e4 lis\u00e4siv\u00e4t \u00e4idin kanssa puhumisen helppous, vahva tuki perheelt\u00e4 sek\u00e4 runsas s\u00e4\u00e4nt\u00f6jen ja valvonnan m\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4. However, it is the most commonly skipped meal. Breakfast is usually eaten at home. Consequently, it is important to examine the association between family environment and adolescent\u2019s breakfast eating. In this study, the family environment includes family communication, family support, rules within the family as well as parental monitoring.\r\nThis Master\u2019s thesis is divided into two parts: a literature review and an article manuscript. The aim of the literature review was to conduct systematic literature search for previous studies of adolescent breakfast eating and its associations with family environment. Original studies concerning family communication, family support, family rules, parental monitoring, family cohesion, family functioning and parenting styles were included. Studies show that the family environment is associated with adolescent\u2019s breakfast eating. However, several variables and different measures have been used which limits the possibilities to draw firm conclusions. Only family rules were investigated in several studies. Food-related family rules were positively associated with breakfast consumption in six out of eight studies. None of the studies addressed measures of family communication, family support, rules and parental monitoring together.\r\nThe manuscript is an original study which aimed to investigate Finnish adolescents\u2019 daily breakfast eating and its associations with family environment (communication, family support, rules and parental monitoring). The data were obtained from the Finnish Health Behaviour in School-aged Children study. Adolescents aged 13 and 15 (n = 3853) completed a questionnaire in 2014. Crosstabs, Chi square and binary logistic regression analysis were used as statistical methods in the study. Ease of communication with mother, high level of family support, high level of family rules and parental monitoring were associated with higher odds of eating breakfast daily. The study points out the importance of family environment in promoting breakfast eating among adolescents.
