Vasteen syntymiseen aivokuorella ei tarvita \u00e4rsykkeen tiedollista prosessointia. Mismatch-vastetta on tutkittu laajasti auditiivisessa j\u00e4rjestelm\u00e4ss\u00e4, mutta raportit somatosensorisen j\u00e4rjestelm\u00e4n mismatch-vasteesta, erityisesti alaraajassa, ovat v\u00e4h\u00e4isi\u00e4. T\u00e4m\u00e4n tutkimuksen tarkoituksena oli tutkia, saadaanko alaraajan s\u00e4hk\u00f6isell\u00e4 tai paineilmastimuloinnilla mismatch-vaste n\u00e4kyviin magnetoenkefalografialla (MEG).\nMEG-tutkimus tehtiin kuudelle terveelle nuorelle aikuiselle Jyv\u00e4skyl\u00e4n yliopiston Monitieteisess\u00e4 aivotutkimuskeskuksessa. Somatosensorista mismatch-vastetta tutkittiin kahdessa eri mittausasetelmassa k\u00e4ytt\u00e4en \u00e4rsykkeen\u00e4 taktiilistimulusta, joka toteutettiin kosketuksenomaisena paineilmapulssina ja s\u00e4hk\u00f6stimulusta. Varpaisiin I ja IV annettiin molemmissa mittausasetelmissa 1000 stimulusta, joista 10% oli poikkeavia. Aivokuoren aktivaatiota tarkasteltiin MEG-signaalien sensorianalyysill\u00e4 ja tilastollisesti parittaisilla t- testeill\u00e4.\nTulokset osoittivat eroja poikkeavan ja standardin \u00e4rsykkeen v\u00e4lill\u00e4. Aikainen aktivaatio (77 ms \u00b1 10,2) osoitti stimulusten saapuvan primaarille somatosensoriselle korteksille samanlaisina, mutta my\u00f6hemm\u00e4n prosessoinnin eroavan poikkeavan stimuluksen osalta. Sensoritason analyysiss\u00e4 poikkeava \u00e4rsyke sai aikaan voimakkaamman aktivaation aivokuorella noin 170 ms (\u00b1 15,8) stimuluksen j\u00e4lkeen verrattuna standardiin \u00e4rsykkeeseen. Mismatch-vaste ilmeni sek\u00e4 taktiilin ett\u00e4 s\u00e4hk\u00f6isen stimulaation j\u00e4lkeen.\nTutkimuksessa k\u00e4ytetyt stimulaatiomenetelm\u00e4t osoittivat aivojen automaattisen j\u00e4rjestelm\u00e4n somatosensorisen muutoksen havaitsemiseen alaraajasta. Moniin kehityksellisiin h\u00e4iri\u00f6ihin liittyy somatosensorisen erottelukyvyn h\u00e4iri\u00f6it\u00e4 ja n\u00e4iss\u00e4 tiloissa my\u00f6s mismatch-vaste saattaa olla heikentynyt. SMMR is elicited when an infrequent deviant stimulus appears in a train of\nstandard stimuli. Cortical response does not depend on attention or cognitive processing.\nMMR has been widely studied in auditory modality but reports on somatosensory modality\nare scarce. Response from lower limb has not yet been studied. The aim of this study was to\nfind out if tactile and electrical stimulation of lower limb will elicit somatosensory mismatch\nresponse on cortical level.\nA MEG-recording was performed for six healthy adults in Centre for Interdisciplinary Brain\nResearch, Jyv\u00e4skyl\u00e4. SMMR was studied in two conditions using tactile air buff and electrical\nstimulation. Altogether 1000 stimuli were given to toes I and IV in both conditions, 10% of\nwhich were deviants. Cortical activation was observed in MEG sensor-level analysis and\nstatistical testing was performed using paired t-tests.\nThe results revealed differences between standard and deviant stimuli. Early activation (77 ms\n\u00b1 10,2) indicated that both stimuli are first processed alike. Compared to standard stimulus,\ndeviant stimulus elicited stronger activation by approximately 170 ms (\u00b1 15,8) post stimulus.\nSMMR was observed after tactile and electrical stimuli.\nThe stimulation method used in present study revealed an automatic cortical process for\ndetecting change in the ascending somatosensory volleys from lower limb. Tactile and\nelectrical stimulation are useful methods for investigating the somatosensory change detection\nsystem. Somatosensory impairments are manifested in several developmental disorders. In\nthese conditions SMMR might be attenuated in amplitude or delayed. SMMR could thus be a\npromising clinical tool for investigating the severity of specific conditions.
