Nyky\u00e4\u00e4n suuri osa yrityksist\u00e4 toimii yritysj\u00e4rjestelmien ymp\u00e4rill\u00e4 ja pieniss\u00e4 kasvavissa yrityksiss\u00e4 liiketoiminta voi muuttua merkitt\u00e4v\u00e4sti lyhyell\u00e4 aikav\u00e4lill\u00e4. Hyv\u00e4 yritysarkkitehtuuri ja liiketoimintaprosessien hallinta voi olla kilpailuetu yritykselle. Tutkimuksessa sovellettiin prosessity\u00f6n teorioita k\u00e4yt\u00e4nn\u00f6ss\u00e4 ja tarkasteltiin k\u00e4ytetyn toimintatavan suositeltavuutta tutkimustapausta vastaavassa liiketoimintaymp\u00e4rist\u00f6ss\u00e4. Tutkimuksen empiirisess\u00e4 osuudessa uudelleen suunniteltiin kohdeyrityksess\u00e4 ongelmalliseksi l\u00f6ydetty liiketoimintaprosessi. Liiketoimintaprosessien malleja k\u00e4ytettiin p\u00e4\u00e4t\u00f6ksenteossa, liiketoimintaprosessien jalkauttamisessa, sek\u00e4 henkil\u00f6st\u00f6n kouluttamisessa. Seuraamalla aiempien tutkimusten parhaita k\u00e4yt\u00e4nt\u00f6j\u00e4 tutkimuksessa onnistuttiin parantamaan kohteena ollutta liiketoimintaprosessia. Liiketoimintaprosessissa otettiin k\u00e4ytt\u00f6\u00f6n yritysj\u00e4rjestelm\u00e4st\u00e4 uusi ominaisuus, jota kustomoitiin palvelemaan paremmin yrityksen liiketoimintaprosessin tarpeita. N\u00e4in liiketoimintaprosessista pystyttiin karsimaan turhia v\u00e4livaiheita, jotka eiv\u00e4t tuottaneet lis\u00e4arvoa prosessille. Tulosten arvioinnissa todettiin liiketoimintaprosessien kuvaamisen ja mallintamisen olevan suositeltavaa, kun pienyrityksess\u00e4 pyrit\u00e4\u00e4n parantamaan toimintaa. Pienyrityksess\u00e4 on helpompaa saada holistinen kuva toiminnasta ja malleista saa oikeellisia. Mallit auttavat p\u00e4\u00e4t\u00f6ksen teossa ja kommunikoinnissa, sek\u00e4 toimivat hyv\u00e4n\u00e4 dokumentaationa jatkossa yrityksen liiketoimintaprosessien hallinnassa, toiminnan ja yritysarkkitehtuurin kehitt\u00e4misess\u00e4. Tutkimuksessa tutkija tunsi yrityksen liiketoiminnan hyvin kokonaisvaltaisesti ja tutkimus rajautui vain yhteen kohdeyritykseen, joten tulokset sellaisenaan ei ole suoranaisesti yleistett\u00e4viss\u00e4. Mallinnusten laatu riippuu paljon mallintajan taidoista ja kuinka hyvin h\u00e4n tuntee liiketoiminnan ja organisaation. Jatkotutkimuksessa olisi mielenkiintoista tarkastella saatuja tuloksia vastaavanlaisessa liiketoimintaymp\u00e4rist\u00f6ss\u00e4, mutta erilaisista tutkijan l\u00e4ht\u00f6kohdista. Nowadays, a majority of businesses revolve around enterprise systems and in small growing companies the conduct of business can change rapidly. Good enterprise architecture and business process management can be a competitive advantage. In this research theories of process work were applied in practice and it was reviewed how recommendable the used procedure is in same kind of business environments. In the empirical part of the research a troublesome business process was reengineered in the target company. Business process models were used in decision making, implementation of business processes and in education of the staff. Following the best practices from the earlier research the business process was improved. With the new business process a new function of the enterprise system was initialized which was also customized to suit the needs of the process. This way it was possible to eliminate irrelevant steps from the business process that did not bring value to the process. Reviewing the results, it can be said that it is recommendable to model business processes when trying to improve conduct of business in a small company. In a small company, it is easier to get a holistic view of the business and to make accurate models. Models will help in decision making and communication. These completed process models will work as a good base for further business process management and enterprise architecture work. The researcher knew the case business holistically and the research was conducted in only one case company, as a single case study. So the results are not directly generalizable. The quality of business process models is dependable on the skills of the modeler and how familiar they are with the organization and their conduct of business. In the further research, it would be interesting to review the results in similar business environments but with a modeler with a different starting point.
