Monimuotoisen median k\u00e4ytt\u00f6 ja kulutus on jatkuvasti nousussa ja sit\u00e4 dominoi, koko maailmassa ja my\u00f6s Suomessa, englanninkielinen media. Englanninkielisen median saatavuuden ja m\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4n takia se on my\u00f6s osana suomenkielisten nuorten jokap\u00e4iv\u00e4ist\u00e4 el\u00e4m\u00e4\u00e4, mink\u00e4 seurauksena englantia koulussa opiskelevilla koululaisilla on mahdollisuus oppia englantia mediank\u00e4yt\u00f6n avulla koulun ulkopuolellakin. \nT\u00e4m\u00e4n tutkimuksen tarkoituksena oli tarkastella suomalaisten yhdeks\u00e4sluokkalaisten omia mielipiteit\u00e4 ja n\u00e4kemyksi\u00e4 heid\u00e4n englanninkielisen median kulutuksestaan ja mahdollisesta englannin oppimisesta median kautta. Tutkimusaineisto ker\u00e4ttiin kyselyll\u00e4, johon vastasi 61 suomalaista yhdeks\u00e4sluokkalaista. Kyselyss\u00e4 kysyttiin yhdeks\u00e4sluokkalaisten mediank\u00e4yt\u00f6st\u00e4: mit\u00e4 mediaa he k\u00e4yttiv\u00e4t ja kuinka paljon, mik\u00e4 oli suosikkimedia ja miksi. T\u00e4m\u00e4n lis\u00e4ksi kyselyyn vastanneilta kysyttiin, kokivatko he oppineensa englantia mediank\u00e4yt\u00f6n avulla, mink\u00e4 median avulla (elokuvat, musiikki jne.), ja mit\u00e4 kielen osa-alueita he olivat mahdollisesti oppineet (esim. \u00e4\u00e4nt\u00e4minen, kielioppi). Kyselyn vastaukset analysoitiin sek\u00e4 laadullisin ett\u00e4 m\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4llisin analyysimetodein. \nTutkimuksen tuloksista voidaan vet\u00e4\u00e4 useita johtop\u00e4\u00e4t\u00f6ksi\u00e4. Kyselyn kaikki vastaajat kuluttivat englanninkielist\u00e4 mediaa monia tunteja viikossa ja kokivat mediank\u00e4yt\u00f6n eritt\u00e4in motivoivaksi tavaksi oppia englantia. Audiovisuaalinen media (esim. TV-sarjat, videot, elokuvat) koettiin parhaiksi tavoiksi oppia kielt\u00e4 ja lis\u00e4t\u00e4 kielitaitoa. Kielitaidon kehityksess\u00e4 \u00e4\u00e4nt\u00e4minen ja sanasto nousivat esille vahvasti, mink\u00e4 lis\u00e4ksi varsinkin puhekielinen ja idiomaattinen sanasto koettiin lis\u00e4\u00e4ntyneen autenttisen materiaalin avulla.
