Kohderyhm\u00e4n\u00e4 olivat englannin aineenopettajat ja luokanopettajat, joilla oli p\u00e4tevyys opettaa englantia alakoulussa. Englannin opetus on vuoden 2014 opetussuunnitelmassa kokenut muutoksia muun muassa aloitusvuodessa ja opetustavoissa, joten opettajien k\u00e4sitykset englannin opettamisesta ovat saattaneet muuttua. Englannin opettamisen k\u00e4sitysten tutkimisesta voivat hy\u00f6ty\u00e4 erityisesti ne opettajat, jotka uudistusten my\u00f6t\u00e4 p\u00e4\u00e4sev\u00e4t opettamaan englantia alakoulussa englannin opettajien tarpeen mahdollisesti lis\u00e4\u00e4ntyess\u00e4. \nKyseess\u00e4 on laadullinen tutkimus, joka toteutettiin haastattelemalla nelj\u00e4\u00e4 englannin aineenopettajaa ja nelj\u00e4\u00e4 luokanopettajaa, joilla oli englanninopettajan p\u00e4tevyys. Haastattelut kohdistettiin nelj\u00e4\u00e4n teemaan: k\u00e4sityksi\u00e4 englannin roolista luokassa, k\u00e4sityksi\u00e4 englannin opettamisesta, k\u00e4sityksi\u00e4 opetuksen tavoitteista sek\u00e4 k\u00e4sityksi\u00e4 eduista ja haitoista englannin opettamisessa. \nTulosten perusteella sek\u00e4 aineenopettajat ett\u00e4 luokanopettajat opettivat englantia p\u00e4\u00e4asiallisesti toiminnallisesti. Suullisella kielitaidolla ja kommunikoinnilla oli suuri rooli opetuksessa. Tavoitteena molemmilla ryhmill\u00e4 oli opettaa oppilaille k\u00e4yt\u00e4nn\u00f6llist\u00e4 kielitaitoa. P\u00e4\u00e4s\u00e4\u00e4nt\u00f6isesti opettajat olivat tyytyv\u00e4isi\u00e4 opetukseensa. Suurimmaksi haasteeksi he kokivat resurssien puutteen. Molempien ryhmien opettajat kertoivat opettavansa opetussuunnitelman mukaisesti. The target group was English subject\nteachers and class teachers, who had qualification to teach English in primary\nschool. English teaching has gone through changes in the curriculum of 2014 in\nstarting year and teaching methods, so the perceptions of teaching English might\nhave changed. Studying the perceptions of English teachers can be especially\nbeneficial for those teachers, who get to teach English in primary school after the\nchanges in the curriculum, which possibly demand more English teachers.\nThe study is a qualitative study, which was made by interviewing four English\nsubject teachers and four class teachers, who have English teachers\u2019 qualification\nin primary school. The interviews were categorized into four themes: perceptions\nof the role of English in the classroom, perceptions of teaching English, perceptions of aims of teaching and perceptions of advantages and disadvantages in\nteaching English.\nBoth the subject teachers and the class teachers with a qualification to teach English used mainly action-based teaching. Oral skills and communication had a big\nemphasis in their teaching. One of the aims was to teach the pupils functional\nlanguage skills. For the most part the teachers were happy with their teaching.\nBiggest disadvantage was a lack of recourses. Both groups taught according to\nthe curriculum (POPS 2014).
