Tutkielma on tehty kirjallisuuskatsauksena sekä tieteellisiin lähteisiin ja kirjallisuuteen, mutta myös relevantteihin artikkeleihin ja verkkojulkaisuihin, jotka avaavat sisältöä selkeästi. Tutkielmasta käy ilmi eroja ansaintamallien välillä, mutta ei kuitenkaan päästä tulokseen siitä, onko jokin ansaintamalli absoluuttisesti parempi kuin toinen. Syitä mallien tuloseroille käsitellään tieteellisten artikkeleiden pohjalta. Näyttää siltä, että digitaaliset markkinat eivät hävitä fyysisiä markkinoita lähitulevaisuudessa, vaan hittituotteille on yhäkin paikka perinteisessä kivijalkamyymälässä. Tutkielman perusteella digitaalisilla markkinoilla käytetään yleensä joko kertamaksumallia, tai sosiaalisissa peleissä usein hybridimalleja, joissa yhdistyvät esimerkiksi mikromaksut sekä mainostulomalli. In this literature review we are reviewing especially microtransaction and subscription models regarding the requirements and effects on corporate business and customers. This review is largely based on entertainment business, mostly on social games with aspects of microtransactions and other revenue models. We are also scratching the surface of revenue models on software markets. This paper clarifies the differences on customer effects of microtransactions, subscription models and other revenue models such as advertisements and classical pay-once model. This paper however does not reach a conclusion on what revenue model is the best for given situation because revenue models are often used with other models. In the light of this paper, it seems that retail stores will not be replaced in the near future by digital distribution platforms but rather that these two avenues complement each other in the entertainment market. Digital platforms seem to primarily use pay-once model for typical products, but social games and many massively multiplayer online games have hybrid models that consist of one or more pricing models, such as microtransactions and subscription model.
