S\u00e4ilytt\u00e4\u00e4kseen kilpailukykyns\u00e4, organisaatioiden on kehitett\u00e4v\u00e4 uusia tuotteita tai palveluita, jotka luovat loppuk\u00e4ytt\u00e4j\u00e4lle uutta ja merkitt\u00e4v\u00e4\u00e4 lis\u00e4arvoa. Digitaalinen tuotekehitysprosessi n\u00e4hd\u00e4\u00e4n t\u00e4ysin uuden tai merkitt\u00e4v\u00e4sti parannellun digitaalisen tuotteen tai palvelun kehitt\u00e4misen\u00e4. T\u00e4ss\u00e4 tutkielmassa digitaalista tuotekehityst\u00e4 tarkasteltiin ydintuotteena digitaalisia palveluita tekev\u00e4n organisaation n\u00e4k\u00f6kulmasta. Empiirisess\u00e4 tutkimuksessa perehdyttiin yhteen tuotekehitysprojektiin ja siin\u00e4 tapahtuneeseen asiakastarpeen kehittymiseen. Empiirinen tutkimus toteutettiin case-tutkimuksena, jossa aineistona hy\u00f6dynnettiin projektiin liittyv\u00e4\u00e4 dokumentaatiota ja sit\u00e4 rikastettiin projektiin osallistuneiden henkil\u00f6iden haastatteluilla eri n\u00e4k\u00f6kulmien ker\u00e4\u00e4miseksi. Tarkastelussa oli erityisesti tuotekehityst\u00e4 tekev\u00e4n organisaation tuotekehitysmenetelm\u00e4t, joilla asiakastarvetta pyrittiin kartoittamaan tuotekehityksen eri vaiheissa. P\u00e4\u00e4tutkimuskysymyksen\u00e4 oli: \u201dMillaisia keinoja tuotekehityst\u00e4 tekevill\u00e4 organisaatioilla on asiakastarpeen kartoittamiseen?\u201d. T\u00e4rkeimmiksi metodeiksi nousivat palvelumuotoilu sek\u00e4 prototypointi. N\u00e4iden avulla toteuttava organisaatio ker\u00e4si ja kehitti asiakkaan tarvetta vastaavan tuotekonseptin sek\u00e4 testasi sit\u00e4 loppuk\u00e4ytt\u00e4jill\u00e4. Palvelumuotoilun keinoin toteuttava organisaatio kykeni tekem\u00e4\u00e4n l\u00e4pin\u00e4kyviksi ja yhdenmukaistamaan asiakkaan eri osapuolten n\u00e4kemyksi\u00e4 toteutettavasta digitaalisesta palvelusta sek\u00e4 muotoilemaan yhden prototyypiksi kehitett\u00e4v\u00e4n palvelukonseptin. Keskeisen\u00e4 tutkimustuloksena havaittiin, ett\u00e4 palvelumuotoilun suurin merkitys asiakastarpeen kehittymiselle oli eri n\u00e4k\u00f6kulmien nostaminen esiin. N\u00e4ist\u00e4 valittiin sitten asiakkaan t\u00e4rkeimmiksi valitsemat tuoteominaisuudet kehitett\u00e4v\u00e4\u00e4n palvelukonseptiin. Konseptin toimivuutta testattiin kehitt\u00e4m\u00e4ll\u00e4 siit\u00e4 \u2019klikattava\u2019 prototyyppi, ja viem\u00e4ll\u00e4 se varsinaisten loppuk\u00e4ytt\u00e4jien testattavaksi mahdollisimman pian palvelumuotoiluun keskittyneen ty\u00f6pajan j\u00e4lkeen. Testaustulosten pohjalta tuotekonseptin ominaisuuksia tarkennettiin loppuk\u00e4ytt\u00e4jien n\u00e4kemyksien toimesta. The roots of the research are in development of digital services, which is interpreted as the ability of organizations to regenerate under the pressure of digitalization. In order to remain competitive, organizations need to develop new products or services that create new and significant added value for the end user. A digital product development process is seen as the development of a completely new or significantly improved digital product or service. In this paper, digital product development was examined from the angle of an organization providing digital services as its core competence. The empirical research focused on a single product development project and the evolution of customer needs in it. The empirical research was carried out as a case study of which data consisted of project documentation enriched by interviews of the project participants to gather different perspectives. In particular, the product development methods of the product development organization were studied, which sought to identify customer needs at different stages of product development. The main research question was: \u201cWhat are the methods for product development organizations to identify customer needs?\u201d. Service design and prototyping were the most important methods. With these, the organization responsible for the product gathered and developed a product concept that meets the customer's needs and tested it with end users. The organization implementing the service design was able to make the process transparent and to harmonize the views of the different parties on the digital service to be implemented and to formulate a single service concept to be developed as a prototype. As a key research result, it was found that the greatest importance of service design for the development of customer needs was to raise different perspectives. These were then selected as the customer's most important product features in the service concept being developed. The functionality of the concept was tested by developing a 'clickable' prototype and brought it to the final end users for testing as soon as possible after a workshop focused on service design. Based on the test results, the features of the product concept were refined by the views of end users.
