Tutkimuksella pyrit\u00e4\u00e4n vastaamaan kysymykseen, voidaanko pneumatiikkaa eli paineilmaa hy\u00f6dynt\u00e4v\u00e4ll\u00e4 ohjaimella kuvata virtuaalisten esineiden lujuutta paremmin kuin yleisemmin k\u00e4ytetyll\u00e4 v\u00e4rin\u00e4palautteella. T\u00e4t\u00e4 yksityiskohtaa on tutkittu toistaiseksi v\u00e4h\u00e4n, joten on mielenkiintoista selvitt\u00e4\u00e4, voisiko uusi teknologia parantaa vuorovaikutuksen immersiota ja k\u00e4ytett\u00e4vyytt\u00e4. Tutkimus perustuu aiemmin tehtyyn tutkimukseen haptisten ohjainten k\u00e4yt\u00f6st\u00e4 pelitarkoituksissa ja pneumatiikan hy\u00f6dynt\u00e4misest\u00e4 erilaisissa ohjaimissa. Tutkimus on toteutettu luomalla prototyyppi pneumatiikkaa hy\u00f6dynt\u00e4v\u00e4st\u00e4 ohjaimesta. Prototyypin toimintaa verrataan olemassa olevaan HTC vive -ohjaimeen ja molempien ohjainten soveltuvuutta virtuaalisten esineiden lujuuden kuvaamiseen. Tutkimustulokset osoittivat, ett\u00e4 pneumatiikkaa on mahdollista hy\u00f6dynt\u00e4\u00e4 ohjaimissa ja ett\u00e4 sit\u00e4 hy\u00f6dynt\u00e4en on mahdollista kuvata lujuutta luonnollisemmin kuin v\u00e4rin\u00e4palautetta hy\u00f6dynt\u00e4en. Tutkimus on alkuvaiheessa ja erilaisia k\u00e4ytt\u00f6tarkoituksia on testattava ja tutkittava viel\u00e4 jatkossa, jotta voidaan varmistaa pneumaattisten haptisten ohjainten tarpeellisuus. The question this research tries to answer is, whether it is possible to portray the rigidness of virtual objects by exploiting pneumatics (pressurized air) better than by means of the more common vibrotactile feedback technology. So far, there has been little research on this matter, so it is interesting to find out if the new technology could improve the sense of immersion and the usability of HCI in virtual reality applications. This research is based on previous research on haptic controllers in the video game scene and exploitation of pneumatics in the controllers. A new prototype pneumatic controller is realised and compared with the existing HTC vive controller. Both controllers are tested on suitability of portraying the rigidness of virtual objects. The results showed that it is possible\nto exploit pneumatics in controllers, and that the prototype\u2019s feedback is more natural for portraying the rigidness of objects than vibrotactile feedback controllers. The research is in its beginning phase and different uses have to be tested and researched further to ensure the necessity of pneumatic haptic controllers. The results can be useful in pneumatic controller research.
