Tutkimusta varten olen haastatellut kahdeksaa yhdeks\u00e4tt\u00e4 luokkaa k\u00e4yv\u00e4\u00e4 S2-oppilasta sek\u00e4 kahta \u00e4idinkielt\u00e4 ja suomea toisena kielen\u00e4 opettavaa opettajaa. Haastatteluiden lis\u00e4ksi olen k\u00e4ytt\u00e4nyt tutkimusaineistonani kentt\u00e4p\u00e4iv\u00e4kirjaa, johon olen kirjannut havaintojani opetustilanteesta. Tutkimusaineisto on koottu kev\u00e4\u00e4ll\u00e4 2018. \n\nKokeilu perustuu Stanfordin yliopistossa kehitettyyn toisen kielen opettamiseen liittyv\u00e4\u00e4n pedagogiseen malliin. Niin kutsutun Include & Accelerate -malli nojaa sosiokulttuuriseen k\u00e4sitykseen kielenoppimisesta, joka painottaa opetuksen vuorovaikutuksellisuutta sek\u00e4 osaamisen yl\u00e4rajoille pyrkimist\u00e4 muun muassa oppimisen oikea-aikaisen tukemisen avulla. Malli edustaa my\u00f6s kielenopetuksen mainstreaming-periaatetta. L\u00e4hestyn tutkimuskohdettani yksil\u00f6iden k\u00e4sityksi\u00e4 ja kokemuksia tutkivan fenomenografisen viitekehyksen kautta. Fenomenografia toimii tutkimuksessani my\u00f6s analyysimenetelm\u00e4n\u00e4. T\u00e4ss\u00e4 tutkimuksessa olen analysoinut oppilaiden ja opettajien kokemuksia muutoksesta, toisesta kielest\u00e4, tavoitteellisuudesta sek\u00e4 osallisuudesta. \n\nTutkimukseni mukaan maahanmuuttajaoppilaiden suhtautuminen muutokseen on melko varautunutta. Opettajat n\u00e4kev\u00e4t mainstreamingissa paljon mahdollisuuksia mutta kokevat, ett\u00e4 sen k\u00e4ytt\u00f6\u00f6n ottaminen vaatii esimerkiksi paljon aikaa sek\u00e4 ryhm\u00e4ytt\u00e4mist\u00e4. My\u00f6s oppilaiden kokemuksia toisen kielen k\u00e4yt\u00f6st\u00e4 v\u00e4ritt\u00e4\u00e4 usein pelko, kiusaantuneisuus ja j\u00e4nnitys saatavasta palautteesta. Moni oppilas ei l\u00e4hde varsinkaan ik\u00e4istens\u00e4 kanssa merkitysneuvotteluihin, sill\u00e4 pelk\u00e4\u00e4, ett\u00e4 ne eiv\u00e4t johda mihink\u00e4\u00e4n, jolloin tilanteesta tulee molemmille osapuolille kiusallinen. S2-oppilaat eiv\u00e4t my\u00f6sk\u00e4\u00e4n v\u00e4ltt\u00e4m\u00e4tt\u00e4 koe, ett\u00e4 oman ik\u00e4iset oppilaat osaisivat tukea heit\u00e4 kielellisesti. Oppilaiden osaamisen yl\u00e4rajoille pyrkimist\u00e4 vaikeuttaa usein turvattomuuden tunne: riskej\u00e4 ei uskalleta ottaa, koska pel\u00e4t\u00e4\u00e4n niiden seurauksia. Osallisuuden kokemuksissa aineistoni jakautui kahtia. Osa oppilaista koki olevansa esimerkiksi osa omaa luokkaansa, jolloin kielellisi\u00e4 vuorovaikutustilanteita ei n\u00e4hty ongelmallisina. Ne, jotka eiv\u00e4t kokeneet osallisuutta, n\u00e4kiv\u00e4t kantasuomalaiset nuoret usein erilaisina kuin he itse. My\u00f6s nuorten vapaa-ajan viettotavoilla oli vaikutusta osallisuuden ja kielenk\u00e4yt\u00f6n kokemuksiin.
