Vieraskielisten ihmisten m\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4 on kasvanut viime vuosikymmenten aikana vauhdilla koko maassa ja siten my\u00f6s kouluissamme. Koska monikulttuurisuuden tuomat muutokset koulumaailmalle ovat suhteellisen tuoreita, ovat monet opettajat uuden \u00e4\u00e4rell\u00e4 suomi toisena kielen\u00e4 (S2) -oppilaiden parissa ty\u00f6skennelless\u00e4\u00e4n. Joitakin tutkimuksia kouluista ja esimerkiksi aikuisten maahanmuuttajien kotoutumisesta on jo tehty, mutta aineenopettajien ty\u00f6t\u00e4, sen eri puolia ja haasteita monikulttuuristen ryhmien parissa ei ole tutkittu toistaiseksi kovin paljoa. On t\u00e4rke\u00e4\u00e4 ker\u00e4t\u00e4 aineenopettajien n\u00e4kemyksi\u00e4 ja kokemuksia ilmi\u00f6st\u00e4, joka koskee yh\u00e4 suurempaa osaa Suomen kouluista tulevaisuudessakin.\n\nT\u00e4m\u00e4 tutkielma pyrki selvitt\u00e4m\u00e4\u00e4n laadullisen tutkimuksen menetelmi\u00e4 hy\u00f6dynt\u00e4en englanninopettajien ajatuksia ja kokemuksia S2-oppilaiden opettamisesta osana suomenkielist\u00e4 ryhm\u00e4\u00e4. Tavoitteenani oli selvitt\u00e4\u00e4, mitk\u00e4 olivat englanninopettajien mielest\u00e4 keskeisimpi\u00e4 haasteita, joita S2-oppilaiden englanninopetukseen liittyi. Lis\u00e4ksi selvitin tukemisen ja eriytt\u00e4misen keinoja, joita opettajat hy\u00f6dynsiv\u00e4t ty\u00f6ss\u00e4\u00e4n S2-oppilaiden kanssa. K\u00e4yt\u00e4nn\u00f6n opettamisen lis\u00e4ksi t\u00e4m\u00e4n tutkimuksen yhten\u00e4 tavoitteena oli saada vastauksia siihen, kokivatko englanninopettajat saamansa opettajankoulutuksen valmistaneen heit\u00e4 tarpeeksi ty\u00f6skentelyyn monikulttuuristen oppilaiden kanssa. \n\nT\u00e4m\u00e4n tutkimuksen aineisto on ker\u00e4tty haastattelemalla kahta opettajaa sek\u00e4 ker\u00e4\u00e4m\u00e4ll\u00e4 verkkokyselylomakkeella 11 muun opettajan vastaukset: vastaajien kokonaism\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4 on n\u00e4in ollen 13. Vastauksista k\u00e4vi ilmi, ett\u00e4 eniten haasteita S2-oppilaiden opettamiseen tuntuu aiheuttavan oppilaiden heikompi suomen ja englannin osaamisen taso. T\u00e4m\u00e4 tuottaa opettajalle usein lis\u00e4ty\u00f6t\u00e4 esimerkiksi kokeiden laatimisessa. Lis\u00e4ksi moni opettaja koki, ettei resursseja S2-oppilaiden tukemiseen ole riitt\u00e4v\u00e4sti. Yleisi\u00e4 tukikeinoja olivat lis\u00e4aika kokeita ja teht\u00e4vi\u00e4 varten, oman puheen mukauttaminen oppilaan tasoon sopivaksi sek\u00e4 suomen kielen v\u00e4hent\u00e4minen teht\u00e4vist\u00e4. Erityisen keskeist\u00e4 oli my\u00f6s yhteisty\u00f6 erityisopettajan kanssa; miltei jokainen tutkimukseen osallistuneista englanninopettajista piti erityisopettajaa, ja moni my\u00f6s koulunk\u00e4ynninohjaajia, t\u00e4rke\u00e4ss\u00e4 roolissa S2-oppilaiden tukemisen kannalta.
