Suomalaisessa lukiokoulutuksessa \u00e4\u00e4nt\u00e4misen opetukseen ei kuitenkaan ole kiinnitetty paljoa huomiota, sill\u00e4 \u00e4\u00e4nt\u00e4mist\u00e4 tai puhetaitoja ei testata suomalaisessa ylioppilastutkinnossa.\nT\u00e4m\u00e4n tutkimuksen tarkoitus oli selvitt\u00e4\u00e4 nykyisten p\u00e4\u00e4- tai sivuaineenaan englantia opiskelevien yliopisto-opiskelijoiden kokemuksia \u00e4\u00e4nt\u00e4misen opetuksesta lukiossa. Lis\u00e4ksi tutkimuksen tarkoituksena oli selvitt\u00e4\u00e4 tuntevatko opiskelijat itsens\u00e4 varmoiksi puhuessaan englantia sek\u00e4 onko heid\u00e4n lukiossa saamallaan \u00e4\u00e4nt\u00e4misen opetuksella ollut vaikutusta itsevarmuuden kehittymiseen. Tutkimuksen aineisto ker\u00e4ttiin nettikyselyll\u00e4. Kysymykset k\u00e4sitteliv\u00e4t opiskelijoiden kokemuksia \u00e4\u00e4nt\u00e4misen opetuksesta lukiossa sek\u00e4 heid\u00e4n tuntemuksiaan koskien itsevarmuutta, kielenk\u00e4yt\u00f6n vaivattomuutta sek\u00e4 valmiutta k\u00e4ytt\u00e4\u00e4 kielt\u00e4 yll\u00e4tt\u00e4viss\u00e4 tilanteissa.\nTutkimustuloksista selvisi, ett\u00e4 suurin osa englannin yliopisto-opiskelijoista tuntee olonsa itsevarmaksi puhuessaan englantia, mutta huomattava m\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4 heist\u00e4 kuitenkin koki lukiossa saamansa \u00e4\u00e4nt\u00e4misen opetuksen puutteelliseksi. Suurimmaksi puutteeksi opiskelijat kokivat henkil\u00f6kohtaisen palautteen ja ohjaamisen puuttumisen sek\u00e4 opetuksen yksitoikkoisuuden. Oppilaiden itsevarmuus k\u00e4ytt\u00e4\u00e4 kielt\u00e4 oli kehittynyt p\u00e4\u00e4s\u00e4\u00e4nt\u00f6isesti koulun ulkopuolella.
