Tarkoituksena on selvittää kirjallisuuskatsauksella viidennen sukupolven tietoverkkoteknologian (5G-teknologian) mahdollisuudet ennakoivalle terveydenhuollolle ja sen sovellutuksille. 5G-teknologiaa kehitetään parhaillaan ja sen oletetaan tulevan laajasti käyttöön vuoteen 2021 mennessä. Viidennen sukupolven verkon toteuttamisessa käytettyjen uusien teknologisten innovaatioiden odotetaan mahdollistavan aiempaa laadukkaamman tiedonsiirron, mikä mahdollistaa myös uusien sovellutuksien käyttöönoton varsinkin terveydenhuollon toimialalla. Tutkielman tavoitteena on käydä läpi 5G:lle asetetut vaatimukset sekä sen mahdollistavat uudet teknologiat, minkä lisäksi tavoitteena on avata ennakoivan terveydenhuollon käsitettä sekä sen mahdollistavia sovelluksia. Tulosten perusteella todetaan 5G:n kaltaisen laadukkaan tiedonsiirron olevan avainasemassa ennakoivan terveydenhuollon sovellutuksien mahdollistamisessa ja osoitettiin myös tarve reaaliaikaiselle terveydenseurannalle sekä sen laajemmalle käytölle. The need for a high-quality data transmission network has been steadily increasing over the last decade. The purpose is to find out the possibilities of the fifth-generation network technology (5G-technology) with a literature review on proactive healthcare and its applications. 5G-technology is currently under development and is expected to become widely available by 2021. The new technological innovations used in the implementation of the fifth-generation network are expected to enable higher quality data transfer, which will also enable the introduction of new applications, especially in the healthcare sector. The aim of this thesis is to go through the requirements for 5G and open up the concept of proactive healthcare and its applications. Based on the results, a high-quality data transfer of the 5G was found to be key in enabling proactive healthcare applications and also the need for real-time health monitoring and its wider use.
