Normaalien luontaisten h\u00e4iri\u00f6iden, kuten tulipalojen, v\u00e4henemisest\u00e4 johtuva umpeenkasvu on viime vuosina voimakkaasti heikent\u00e4nyt paahdeymp\u00e4rist\u00f6jen ja niiden eli\u00f6lajiston tilaa Suomessa. Yksi vaarantuneista lajeista on kangasajuruoho (Thymus serpyllum), monivuotinen paljasta kivenn\u00e4ismaata ja valoa vaativa varpukasvi ja yksi harjujen paahdeymp\u00e4rist\u00f6jen avainlajeista. T\u00e4ss\u00e4 tutkimuksessa selvitettiin, onko jokin maaper\u00e4tekij\u00e4 (pH, kosteus, orgaanisen aineen m\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4, maaper\u00e4el\u00e4inten yksil\u00f6m\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4t) tai ymp\u00e4r\u00f6iv\u00e4 kasvillisuus yhteydess\u00e4 kangasajuruohon menestymiseen harjujen paahderinteill\u00e4. Tutkimusalueina toimi yhdeks\u00e4n Rokuan harjualueella sijaitsevaa paahderinnett\u00e4, joilla oli kahdeksan vuotta aiemmin hoidettu kangasajuruohoa paljastamalla kivenn\u00e4ismaata kasvustojen ymp\u00e4rilt\u00e4. Kultakin tutkimusalalta valittiin kaksi ajuruohollista n\u00e4ytealaa ja kaksi ajuruohotonta kontrollialaa, ja n\u00e4it\u00e4 vertailtiin toisiinsa tutkittavien ominaisuuksien suhteen. Ajuruohollisten alojen pohjakerroksen ja j\u00e4k\u00e4lien peitt\u00e4vyydet olivat pienempi\u00e4 kuin kontrollialojen, mik\u00e4 oli odotettavissa aiemmista hoitotoimenpiteist\u00e4 johtuen, mutta sammalien peitt\u00e4vyyksiss\u00e4 ei ollut eroja. Kentt\u00e4kerroksen peitt\u00e4vyys oli suurempi ajuruohollisilla kuin kontrollialoilla. The coverage of vegetation is usually low, and the proportion of exposed mineral soil is high. Due to modern forestry practices and a decrease in natural disturbances, especially forest fires, the undergrowth vegetation of these forests in Finland is closing and many of the specialized species living in these habitats are becoming endangered. Thymus serpyllum, a perennial herb and a key species of sunlit esker habitats, is one of the species that has suffered from the overgrowth of open esker habitats, as it requires exposed mineral soil and is a poor competitor. The aim of this study was to find out whether certain soil factor (pH, soil moisture, amount of organic matter, the number of soil animals), or vegetation is related to the success of Thymus serpyllum in sunlit esker habitats. The study sites were nine open, southfacing slopes of esker forest stands located in Rokua, an esker formation in northern Finland. Eight years before this study, mineral soil was exposed around Thymus serpyllum at these sites to enhance its survival. Four sampling plots were studied at each study site, two plots with Thymus serpyllum and two control plots without it. The coverages of ground vegetation and lichens were higher in the control plots, which was expected due to the earlier treatment at the sites, but there were no differences in the coverage of bryophytes. The coverage of field vegetation was higher in the plots with Thymys serpyllum.
