Tutkimus toteutettiin teemahaastattelujen avulla. Haastatteluihin osallistui 10 peruskouluopettajaa nelj\u00e4st\u00e4 kaupungista. \r\nAineiston analysoinnissa hy\u00f6dynnettiin Ting-Toomeyn identiteetin neuvottelu teoriaa (Identity Negotiation Theory). Analyysin tulokset paljastavat, ett\u00e4 opettajat, joilla on vahva yhteys kulttuuri-identiteettiins\u00e4 ovat v\u00e4hemm\u00e4n tietoisia viestinn\u00e4ss\u00e4\u00e4n verrattuna niihin opettajiin, jotka ovat altistuneet muille kulttuureille. Muiden kulttuurien tuntemus auttoi opettajia olemaan tietoisempia oman kulttuurinsa vaikutuksista heid\u00e4n viestint\u00e4\u00e4ns\u00e4. Tutkimuksen perusteella voidaan esitt\u00e4\u00e4, ett\u00e4 opettajat voivat toki selvit\u00e4 perusty\u00f6st\u00e4\u00e4n ilman aimpaa koulutusta kulttuurienv\u00e4lisen viestinn\u00e4n osalta, mutta ett\u00e4 ne heist\u00e4, joilla oli pidempi kokemus kulttuureihin liittyvist\u00e4 tekij\u00f6ist\u00e4 opetuksessa kykeniv\u00e4t neuvottelemaan kulttuuri-identiteetti\u00e4\u00e4n ja viestint\u00e4\u00e4ns\u00e4 tietoisemmin.", "language": "fi", "element": "description", "qualifier": "abstract", "schema": "dc"}, {"key": "dc.description.abstract", "value": "This study analyses the intercultural communication competence of Finnish basic education teachers who teach a multicultural classroom. The study was conducted through interviews with 10 Finnish Basic Education teachers from four cities in Finland. \r\nThis study uses Ting-Toomey\u2019s Identity Negotiation Theory to analyse the collected data. The key findings of the study were; Teachers with strong connection to their cultural identity are less mindful in their communication and teachers who have been subjected to other cultures are more aware of their culture\u2019s impacts on their communication.
