Liikuntatieteellinen tiedekunta, Jyv\u00e4skyl\u00e4n yliopisto, liikuntapedagogiikan pro gradu -tutkielma, 86 s., 7 liitett\u00e4.\n\nT\u00e4m\u00e4n tutkielman tarkoituksena oli selvitt\u00e4\u00e4 suomalaisten urheiluyl\u00e4koululaisten viikoittaista liikunta-aktiivisuutta, koettua fyysist\u00e4 toimintakyky\u00e4 ja niiden v\u00e4list\u00e4 yhteytt\u00e4. Liikunta-aktiivisuutta ja koettua fyysist\u00e4 toimintakyky\u00e4 tarkasteltiin sukupuolittain ja p\u00e4\u00e4lajiryhmitt\u00e4in (joukkuelajit, esteettiset lajit, muut yksil\u00f6lajit) sek\u00e4 erikseen jalkapallon ja j\u00e4\u00e4kiekon harrastajilla. Tutkielman kohteena olivat urheiluyl\u00e4koulukokeilussa elokuussa 2017 aloittaneet 7.-luokkalaiset nuoret. Aineisto ker\u00e4ttiin syyslukukauden 2017 aikana elektronisella kyselylomakkeella. Kyselyyn vastasi tammikuun 2018 puoleen v\u00e4liin menness\u00e4 217 urheiluyl\u00e4koululaista 11:st\u00e4 koulusta, vastausprosentin ollessa 61. Aineisto analysoitiin kev\u00e4\u00e4ll\u00e4 2018. Analyysimenetelmin\u00e4 k\u00e4ytettiin ristiintaulukointia ja Khiin neli\u00f6 (\u03c72) -testi\u00e4, riippumattomien otosten t-testi\u00e4 sek\u00e4 yksisuuntaista varianssianalyysi\u00e4. \n\nUrheiluyl\u00e4koululaisista yli puolet (60 %) saavutti liikuntasuosituksen kysely\u00e4 edelt\u00e4v\u00e4ll\u00e4 viikolla eli liikkui reippaasti v\u00e4hint\u00e4\u00e4n tunnin p\u00e4ivitt\u00e4in. My\u00f6s urheiluyl\u00e4koulukokeilun tavoitteen (liikkumista 20\u201330 tuntia viikossa) saavutti yli puolet (57 %) nuorista. Tavallisella viikolla pojat saavuttivat liikuntasuosituksen tytt\u00f6j\u00e4 useammin (p=.025). Esteettisten lajien harrastajat liikkuivat tuntim\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4llisesti enemm\u00e4n verrattuna joukkuelajien harrastajiin (p=.011). Urheiluyl\u00e4koululaisilla oli my\u00f6nteinen k\u00e4sitys omasta fyysisest\u00e4 toimintakyvyst\u00e4\u00e4n. Tyt\u00f6t kuitenkin kokivat notkeutensa (p=.000) ja tasapainonsa (p=.021) poikia paremmiksi, kun taas pojat kokivat pallonk\u00e4sittelyns\u00e4 (p=.000) sek\u00e4 taitavuutensa liikunnassa ja peleiss\u00e4 (p=.004) paremmiksi kuin tyt\u00f6t. P\u00e4\u00e4lajiryhmitt\u00e4in tarkasteltuna notkeudessa, tasapainossa, pallonk\u00e4sittelyss\u00e4 ja taitavuudessa liikunnassa ja peleiss\u00e4 havaittiin tilastollisesti eritt\u00e4in merkitsevi\u00e4 eroja. Esimerkiksi esteettisten lajien harrastajat kokivat notkeutensa paremmaksi kuin joukkuelajien ja muiden yksil\u00f6lajien harrastajat. Joukkuelajien harrastajat taas kokivat pallonk\u00e4sittelyns\u00e4 paremmaksi kuin esteettisten ja muiden yksil\u00f6lajien harrastajat. Liikunnallisesti aktiivisemmat urheiluyl\u00e4koululaiset kokivat fyysisen toimintakykyns\u00e4 p\u00e4\u00e4osin paremmaksi verrattuna v\u00e4hemm\u00e4n liikkuviin urheiluyl\u00e4koululaisiin. \n\nUrheiluyl\u00e4koululaisista l\u00e4hes puolella (40 %) liikkumisen m\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4 j\u00e4\u00e4 liikuntasuosituksen (v\u00e4hint\u00e4\u00e4n 60 minuuttia liikuntaa p\u00e4ivitt\u00e4in) mukaan terveyden ja hyvinvoinnin kannalta n\u00e4enn\u00e4isesti liian v\u00e4h\u00e4iseksi, vaikka he liikkuvat keskim\u00e4\u00e4rin 21 tuntia viikossa. Kansallinen liikuntasuositus (v\u00e4hint\u00e4\u00e4n 60 minuuttia reipasta ja rasittavaa liikuntaa p\u00e4ivitt\u00e4in) ei huomioi riitt\u00e4v\u00e4n levon m\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4\u00e4, mink\u00e4 vuoksi nuorille tavoitteellisille urheilijoille olisi perusteltua laatia oma lajikohtainen liikuntasuositus. Kansallisesti kattavan LIITU-tutkimuksen (2016) tuloksiin peilaten urheiluyl\u00e4koululaiset ovat aktiivisempia liikkujia ja he my\u00f6s kokevat fyysisen toimintakykyns\u00e4 paremmaksi kuin ik\u00e4toverinsa ymp\u00e4ri Suomea. Department of Sport Sciences, University of Jyvaskyla, Master\u2019s thesis, 86 pp. 7 appendices.\n\nThe purpose of this study was to investigate weekly physical activity, perceived physical competence, and the relationship between these two factors within the context of Finnish secondary school sports students. Both physical activity and perceived physical competence were examined by gender, by main sport group (e.g. team sports, aesthetic sports and other individual sports) and separately amongst football and ice hockey players. The study\u2019s participants comprised seventh graders who started secondary school of sports trials in August 2017. By mid-January 2018 the questionnaire was answered by 217 secondary school of sports\u2019 students from 11 schools, making the answering per cent 61. The data was analysed using crosstabulation, chi-squared (\u03c72) tests, independent samples t-tests and one-way ANOVA. \n\nMore than half (60%) of the secondary school sports students achieved the health-enhancing physical activity recommendation (i.e. at least one hour of moderate to vigorous activity per day) in the week prior to the questionnaire. More than half of the students (57%) also reached the objective of secondary school sports classes (i.e. 20 to 30 hours of exercise per week). Within a typical week, boys reached the health-enhancing physical activity recommendation more often than girls did (p = .025). Additionally, aesthetic sport athletes spent more hours being physically active compared to team sport athletes (p = .011). The students perceived their physical competence positively. Girls perceived their mobility (p = .000) and balance (p = .021) better than boys did, whereas boys perceived their ball handling (p = .000) and skills in sports and games (p = .004) better than girls did. When examining the factors according to main sport group, there were statistically significant differences in perceived mobility, balance, ball handling, and skills in sports and games. For example, aesthetic sports athletics perceived their mobility better than team sports and other individual sports athletes. Also, team sports athletes perceived their ball handling skills better than aesthetic sports and other individual sports athletes. The more physically active students reported a higher perceived physical competence compared to the students who were less physically active.\n\nAccording to the National Institute for Health and Welfare\u2019s standards for 60 minutes daily physical acticity, almost half (40%) of the students in this study reported inadequate physical activity, even though they exercised for 21 hours per week on average. The national recommendation for health-enhancing physical activity (i.e. at least 60 minutes of vigorous activity per day) does not consider rest, so it would be justified to compile a sport-specific physical activity recommendation for target-oriented athletes. When comparing this sample data to nationwide LIITU research (2016), it is clear that secondary school sports students are physically more active and report a higher perceived physical competence than the rest of the cohort. This finding strengthens the understanding of the relationship between physical activity and perceived physical competence amongst youth.
