Lapela, P. 2018. Teachers’ experiences of Move!. Faculty of Sport and Health Sciences, University of Jyväskylä, Master’s thesis in Sport pedagogy, 42 pp., 1 appendix. The aim of this thesis is to examine primary school teachers’ experiences of the national Move!-measurements in the fifth grade. The questions at issue concern how the teachers executed the measurements, what problems they consider to be linked to Move!, how much resources Move! have required, how pupils and guardians have reacted on Move!-measurements, what the teachers consider of the Move!-material and the information about Move!, Move!-cooperation and what changes the teachers have for Move!. The research is qualitative and as data collection method semi-structured interview with open questions was used. Five teachers who had been responsible for Move!-measurements were interviewed in August and September in 2018. They are all from different rural schools with under 150 pupils. The material was structured in themes for the analysis to show the teachers’ different experiences of Move!. The interviewed teachers have made the Move!-measurements in slightly different ways as a result of both their own choices and external circumstances. The teachers pointed out different problems. Upper body lift and push-ups some of the teachers considered to be problematic due to they were difficult for the pupils to perform or because there were a different in performance thus to gender. How the measurements affected pupils and how Move! suits with the perspective of the normal physical education were aspects teachers pointed out as problems. Also the question how reliable and comparable the results are when every teacher make their own interpretation of the material and when pupils are part of the assessment came up in the interviews. Every teacher needed a different amount of resources to execute Move! and the first time executing Move! required the most time effort. The teachers had got few reactions from pupils and guardians. All teachers thought the Move!-materials were well made for the purpose and enough. The information when Move! was new hade came late according to the teachers, but otherwise they thought the information is good. Some only missed the information what to do with the results afterwards. At the schools there were no other cooperation than that the school healthcare got the results. Finally, as change proposals the teachers pointed out the time frame for Move!, who is responsible of Move!, how the measurements of upper body lift schould be done and how the results will be transferred to the eighth grade. The research show that Move!-measurements can be done in different ways; one way do not suit all schools and teachers. The Move!-material and the informations about Move! are good as they are now. However, there are other aspects of Move! that should be reflected in the view of the future. Especially what happens after the measurements are done should have clearer frames. Key words: physical functional capacity, Move!, physical activity.
