Käsittelyn kohteena on erityisesti hydrometallurgisissa kierrätysprosesseissa käytetyt metallien talteenottomenetelmät, kuten saostus, neste-nesteuutto ja ioninvaihto. Tutkielmassa käsitellään myös litiumioniakkujen koostumusta sekä akuissa käytettyjen metallien tuotantoa ja käyttökohteita. Kokeellisessa osassa tutkittiin litiumioniakkujen katodimateriaalin liuottamista rikkihapon ja vetyperoksidin avulla erilaisissa olosuhteissa. Katodimateriaalin liuottamisen jälkeen koboltin, mangaanin, nikkelin ja litiumin selektiivistä talteenottoa liuoksesta tutkittiin käyttämällä erilaisia metallisieppareita ja ioninvaihtohartseja. Tulosten perusteella koboltti, nikkeli ja mangaani voidaan sitoa rikkihappoliuoksesta Lewatit® TP 260 ioninvaihtohartsin avulla litiumin jäädessä liuokseen.
