Petrokemian teollisuudessa on k\u00e4ytetty valtavasti resursseja uusien polttonesteiden analyysitapojen kehitt\u00e4miseen ja yksi varteenotettava menetelm\u00e4 on GC x GC. T\u00e4ll\u00e4 laitteistolla voidaan mitata my\u00f6s \u00e4\u00e4rimm\u00e4isen hyvin eritt\u00e4in pieni\u00e4 pitoisuuksia esimerkiksi ilmasta ja petrokemian ohella ilmantutkimus on toinen laitteen suurista k\u00e4ytt\u00f6kohteista.\nUPM Pohjois-Euroopan tutkimuskeskukseen hankittiin kyseinen laite. T\u00e4m\u00e4 pro gradu -tutkielma keskittyi laitteelle hankitun uuden ilmaisimen ja tiedonk\u00e4sittelyohjelman k\u00e4ytt\u00f6\u00f6nottoon sek\u00e4 laitteen parhaan mahdollisen k\u00e4yt\u00f6n varmistamiseen. Lis\u00e4ksi luotiin mittausmenetelm\u00e4t moninaisen hiilivetymatriisin syklisten ja aromaattisten hiilivetyjen m\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4n mittaamista varten. T\u00e4m\u00e4n menetelm\u00e4n pohjalta tulevaisuudessa voidaan pienin muutoksin lis\u00e4t\u00e4 laitteen mittauskapasiteettia ja kasvattaa erilaisten n\u00e4ytematriisien m\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4\u00e4.\nAnalyyttien m\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4n mittaamisessa ei t\u00e4ysin p\u00e4\u00e4sty tavoitteeseen, sill\u00e4 aromaattisten yhdisteiden m\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4 oli 2-3 %-yksikk\u00f6\u00e4 liian suuri vertailumittauksiin n\u00e4hden. T\u00e4h\u00e4n oli useita syit\u00e4, eik\u00e4 yksitt\u00e4isten syiden painoarvoa ty\u00f6h\u00f6n k\u00e4ytetyss\u00e4 ajassa voitu m\u00e4\u00e4ritt\u00e4\u00e4. Laitteen kokoonpano oli erilainen kuin yleisesti k\u00e4ytetyiss\u00e4 GC x GC -sovelluksissa.
