Tavoitteena oli saattaa Boliden Harjavalta Oy:n ymp\u00e4rist\u00f6n\u00e4ytteiden hajotus ja metallianalyysit vastaamaan aiempaa paremmin Suomen standardisoimisliiton standardeja (SFS-EN ISO 15587-1 ja SFSEN 13657). Mikroaaltoavusteinen kuningasvesihajotus kehitettiin ja osittain validoitiin analysoiduille vesi-, sakka-, kuona- ja lieten\u00e4ytteille. Vesin\u00e4ytteiden hajotusta verrattiin t\u00e4h\u00e4n asti laboratoriossa k\u00e4ytettyyn klassiseen avoastiassa teht\u00e4v\u00e4\u00e4n happohajotukseen. Kiinteiden n\u00e4ytteiden tuloksia verrattiin XRF-laitteistolla saatuihin tuloksiin. Vertailua tehtiin my\u00f6s akkreditoiduissa laboratorioissa saatuihin tuloksiin. Lis\u00e4ksi k\u00e4ytett\u00e4viss\u00e4 oli p\u00e4tevyyskoen\u00e4ytteit\u00e4, joille tehtiin uuden menetelm\u00e4n mukainen k\u00e4sittely, mink\u00e4 j\u00e4lkeen tuloksia verrattiin vertailuarvoihin. N\u00e4ytteiden metallipitoisuudet mitattiin induktiivisesti kytketyll\u00e4 optisella plasmaemissiolaitteistolla (ICP-OES). Tulosten tarkasteluun ja vertailuun k\u00e4ytettiin tilastollisia menetelmi\u00e4. \n \nLis\u00e4ksi ty\u00f6ss\u00e4 tutkittiin, saavutetaanko suljetulla mikroaaltohajotuksella muita merkitt\u00e4vi\u00e4 etuja avoimeen hajotukseen n\u00e4hden. Eduiksi laskettiin alhaisemmat m\u00e4\u00e4ritysrajat toiseen hajotusmenetelm\u00e4\u00e4n n\u00e4hden, hajotusnopeus, ty\u00f6turvallisuus sek\u00e4 mikroaaltohajotuksen sujuvuus ja helppous analysoiduille n\u00e4ytteille. N\u00e4iden lis\u00e4ksi taloudellisuus ja ymp\u00e4rist\u00f6n kuormituksen v\u00e4heneminen, pienempien reagenssim\u00e4\u00e4rien my\u00f6t\u00e4, otettiin huomioon. Kirjallisessa osassa k\u00e4siteltiin muun muassa analysoitujen n\u00e4ytetyyppien ominaisuuksia, mikroaaltohajotuksen ja ICP-OES-laitteiston periaatteita sek\u00e4 menetelm\u00e4validointia, joista saatuja tietoja sovellettiin kokeellisessa osassa. \n \nMikroaaltoavusteinen kuningasvesihajotus osoittautui hyvin k\u00e4ytt\u00f6kelpoiseksi ja toimivaksi menetelm\u00e4ksi ymp\u00e4rist\u00f6n\u00e4ytteiden hajotuksessa. Mikroaaltohajotuksella saadut tulokset olivat toistettavia ja yhtenev\u00e4isi\u00e4 vertailutulosten kanssa. Saantokokeet osoittivat, ett\u00e4 analyyttej\u00e4 ei menetetty k\u00e4sittelyn aikana. Laboratoriossa k\u00e4ytetyn vesin\u00e4ytteiden hajotusmenetelm\u00e4n todettiin sen sijaan systemaattisesti antavan pienempi\u00e4 tuloksia kuin mikroaaltohajotusmenetelm\u00e4n, joten avoimesta happohajotuksesta luopumista tai sen muuttamista alettiin suunnitella.
