Koului\u00e4ss\u00e4 nuoren omien ruokavalintojen merkitys alkaa korostua. Nuorten Akatemian Oma valinta \u2013hanke syntyi tarpeesta antaa nuorten itse kehitt\u00e4\u00e4 terveellisi\u00e4 elintapoja lis\u00e4\u00e4vi\u00e4 toimintatapoja koulujensa arkeen. Samalla haluttiin lis\u00e4t\u00e4 nuorten osallisuutta oman koulunsa toimintaan. T\u00e4ss\u00e4 tutkimuksessa tutkittiin Oma valinta \u2013hankkeessa ker\u00e4tyn kyselyaineiston avulla nuorten tekemien ruokavalintojen terveellisyytt\u00e4 ja nuorten osallisuutta koulujensa arkeen sek\u00e4 osallisuuden ja ruokavalintojen yhteyksi\u00e4. Hypoteesina oli, ett\u00e4 koulun toimintaan enemm\u00e4n osallistuvat nuoret tekev\u00e4t my\u00f6s terveellisempi\u00e4 ruokavalintoja. Tutkimuksen tulokset vahvistivat aiemmassa tutkimuksessa havaittua tietoa siit\u00e4, ett\u00e4 nuorten ruokavalinnoissa ja osallisuuden toteutumisessa on paljon parantamisen varaa. L\u00e4hes puolet nuorista j\u00e4tt\u00e4\u00e4 aamupalan tai lounaan v\u00e4liin ainakin osan viikkoa ja monet sy\u00f6v\u00e4t usein makeita v\u00e4lipaloja ja juomia. Vain reilu kolmannes sy\u00f6 koululounaan kaikki aterianosat. Moni nuori ei ole osallistunut koulunsa toiminnan suunnitteluun tai j\u00e4rjest\u00e4miseen eik\u00e4 koe tulleensa kuulluksi koulussaan. Osallisuus ja ruokavalinnat eiv\u00e4t kuitenkaan olleet selv\u00e4ss\u00e4 yhteydess\u00e4 toisiinsa kaikkien muuttujien osalta. Oppilaiden kuulluksi tulemisen kokemus oli eniten yhteydess\u00e4 terveellisten ruokavalintojen toteutumiseen. Terveellisiin ruokavalintoihin tulisi kiinnitt\u00e4\u00e4 lis\u00e4\u00e4 huomiota, jotta ylipainoisten m\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4 ei jatkaisi kasvuaan eik\u00e4 ep\u00e4terveellisest\u00e4 ruoasta koituvia haittoja tulisi lis\u00e4\u00e4. Finnish organization Youth Academy carried out Oma valinta (\u201dYour Own Choice\u201d) \u2013project. The aim of the project was to allow adolescents to develop their own choices supporting healthier ways of life. Another goal of the project was to increase adolescents\u2019 participation in planning and organizing their schools\u2019 schoolwork and activities. In this study, the questionnaire data of the project was used to determine how healthy adolescents\u2019 food choices are, how much they participate in activities of their schools, and is there a link between healthy food choices and participation. The hypothesis was that those adolescents who participate more in activities of their school make also healthier food choices. The results of this study confirmed the results of other studies on poor health choices and lack of participation in adolescents. Almost half of the adolescents skip a breakfast or a school lunch at least once a week. In addition, a great number of adolescents consume sweet snacks and drinks. Only one third of the adolescents eats every part of the school lunch. A considerable number of adolescents had never participated in planning or organizing any activities in their school. The feeling of being heard was related to healthy food choices among students. However, participation and healthy food choices were not directly linked to each other. More attention should be paid to the healthy food choices to reduce overweight and related diseases.
