Liikuntatieteellinen tiedekunta, Jyv\u00e4skyl\u00e4n yliopisto, liikunnan yhteiskuntatieteiden pro gradu -tutkielma, 104 s., 3 liitett\u00e4.\nUrheilun ymp\u00e4rille syntynyt liiketoiminta on kehittynyt viimeisten vuosikymmenten aikana r\u00e4j\u00e4hdysm\u00e4isesti, mik\u00e4 on asettanut urheilujohtamiselle uudenlaisen haasteen. Vanhasta yhdistysajattelusta on luovuttava ja toimintatapojen tulee perustua liiketoiminnan lainalaisuuksiin. Kotimaisen j\u00e4\u00e4kiekkoliiketoiminnan yhti\u00f6itt\u00e4misell\u00e4 ja SM-liigan sulkemisella vuosituhannen vaihteessa tavoiteltiin vaikeuksissa olleiden seurojen taloudellista tervehdytt\u00e4mist\u00e4. Tuloksena oli kuitenkin kassakriisit ja tappiolliset tilinp\u00e4\u00e4t\u00f6kset.\nTutkimuksessa tarkastellaan Tampereen Ilveksen edustusj\u00e4\u00e4kiekkotoimintaa hallinoivan Ilves- Hockey Oy:n taloudellista tilaa vuosien 2003\u20132017 v\u00e4lisen\u00e4 aikana. Tutkimuksen tavoitteena on selvitt\u00e4\u00e4 kannattavuuden, maksuvalmiuden ja vakavaraisuuden tunnuslukujen kehitys edell\u00e4 mainitulla ajanjaksolla. Tutkimuksessa kartoitetaan my\u00f6s, mink\u00e4laisia strategisia valintoja yhti\u00f6ss\u00e4 on tehty. Lis\u00e4ksi tarkastellaan, mit\u00e4 muita taloudelliseen tilaan ja strategioihin vaikuttaneita seikkoja yhti\u00f6ss\u00e4 on tapahtunut sek\u00e4 arvioidaan, onko taloudellisella menestyksell\u00e4 ollut vaikutusta urheilulliseen menestykseen. Tutkimusaineistona k\u00e4ytet\u00e4\u00e4n yhti\u00f6n tilinp\u00e4\u00e4t\u00f6ksi\u00e4 ja niiden sis\u00e4lt\u00e4mi\u00e4 toimintakertomuksia, yhti\u00f6n omia tiedotteita sek\u00e4 median kirjoituksia Ilveksest\u00e4 ja Liigasta. Lis\u00e4ksi aineistona hy\u00f6dynnet\u00e4\u00e4n Liigan tilastoja sarjasijoituksista ja kokoonpanoista. Tutkimusmetodina k\u00e4ytet\u00e4\u00e4n tilinp\u00e4\u00e4t\u00f6sanalyysi\u00e4, jossa hy\u00f6dynnet\u00e4\u00e4n tunnuslukujen ja numeerisen informaation lis\u00e4ksi muuta yhti\u00f6st\u00e4 olemassa olevaa tietoa.\nTilinp\u00e4\u00e4t\u00f6sanalyysist\u00e4 selvi\u00e4\u00e4, ett\u00e4 yhti\u00f6 oli vakavarainen ja sen maksuvalmius oli hyv\u00e4 tarkastelujakson alussa. Liiketaloudellisesti arvioituna toiminta ei ollut erityisen kannattavaa, mutta tuotti kuitenkin voittoa, vaikka toimialan tuloskehitys oli eritt\u00e4in heikko. Kaudella 2008\u20132009 otettu riski toteutui ja yhti\u00f6 ajautui negatiiviseen kierteeseen, mist\u00e4 ulosp\u00e4\u00e4sy\u00e4 vaikeutti monet seikat. Liiketoiminta tuotti t\u00e4st\u00e4 l\u00e4htien tappiota jokaisella kaudella lukuun ottamatta tarkastelujakson viimeist\u00e4 kautta. Tappioiden yhteenlaskettu m\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4 ylitti nelj\u00e4 miljoonaa euroa. Vaikka osa yhti\u00f6n tunnusluvuista pysyi kohtalaisella tasolla, tunnuslukujen kokonaisuus ilmaisi taloudellisen tilanteen olleen heikko. Yhti\u00f6n strategisia valintoja hyv\u00e4n alun j\u00e4lkeen kuvaa suunnittelemattomuus, mik\u00e4 tarkastelujakson lopussa kuitenkin parani. Heikkoon taloudelliseen tilanteeseen vaikuttivat toiminnan suunnittelemattomuus, se ettei olemassa olevia resursseja osattu suhteuttaa toimintaan sek\u00e4 yhti\u00f6n johdossa tapahtuneet useat henkil\u00f6vaihdokset. Faculty of Sport Sciences, University of Jyv\u00e4skyl\u00e4, Master\u2019s thesis in Social Sciences of Sport, 104 pp., 3 appendices.\nThe explosive growth of sports industry in the last few decades has brought new challenges to sports management. Clearly, new business oriented management procedures are needed to replace the mode of operation of nonprofit clubs. In 2000 the promotion and relegation in the Finnish highest-level ice hockey league (SM-liiga) were discontinued, and at the same time most of the ice hockey clubs were incorporated with the objective of relieving their difficult financial situation. However, the effect of these measures was the opposite: continuing economic crisis and disappointing financial statements.\nThis thesis examines the financial status of Ilves-Hockey Oy during 2003\u20132017 as it manages the Ilves hockey team. The analysis includes profitability, solvency, and liquidity of the company during those 14 years. Furthermore, the thesis entails an evaluation of the effect that the company\u2019s strategic choices and financial status had on the athletic performance of the team. The research data consists of the financial statements of the company and the annual reports of the board of directors. Data was collected also from press releases, series placements, and other statistics of the team or the league along with official statements of the company. The research method is the financial statement analysis that uses the numeric data of the financial statements as well as all the non-numeric data that is available on the company.\nIn the early years of the examination period the analysis reveals that the company was financially solvent but not yet very profitable. It still made some profit even though the teams in the professional league on the average were highly unprofitable. The risk that was taken in the season 2008\u20132009 was realized, and the company span into a downward spiral. There were many reasons why the spiral could not be stopped. The business was unprofitable from this season onwards until the last season of the examination period. The combined losses from this period were over four million euros. Even though some of the analyzed key ratios stayed at reasonable levels, the total of the key ratios displayed the financial weakness of the company. After the good period in the early years of the examination period the strategic management in the company seemed arbitrary by its nature, but it would be amended towards the end of the examination period. A strong factor in the poor financial situation was the company\u2019s inability to operate within the constraints of the business environment.
