Kontrolliryhmää ruokittiin maanantaista perjantaihin kahdesti päivässä koko 13 viikkoa kestäneen koejakson ajan. Muut ryhmät ruokittiin harvemmin tai harvenevasti. Kontrolliryhmän kirjolohilla oli ruokintapäiviä yhteensä 68, käsittelyllä 1 48, käsittelyllä 2 43 ja käsittelyllä 3 38 päivää. Kokeen viimeiset neljä viikkoa kaikki ryhmät ruokittiin maanataista perjantaihin kaksi kertaa joka päivä. Ravinnon kulutusta seurattiin jatkuvasti. Näytteitä otettiin neljän, yhdeksän ja kolmentoista viikon jälkeen. Tällöin kaikki kalat punnittiin ja pituudet mitattiin. Näytekaloilta poistettiin sisäelimet ja niiden maksa, suolistorasva, tyhjennetty mahalaukku ja mahalaukun sisältö punnittiin. Lisäksi määritettiin mahalaukkujen tilavuudet ja maksojen vesipitoisuudet. Näytekaloilta otettiin myös verinäytteet, joista analysoitiin hematokriitti sekä plasmasta kloridipitoisuus. Kokeen lopussa kontrollikalat olivat merkitsevästi suurempia (235,3 ± 27,8 g) kuin käsittelyn 3 kalat (134,7 ± 24,5 g). Kuntokertoimissa, kasvukertoimissa (SGR), rehukertoimissa eikä mahojen tilavuuksissa havaittu merkitseviä eroja käsittelyiden välillä. Lasketut kompensaatiokertoimet kasvun ja rehunkulutuksen osalta jäivät pieniksi ja kompensaatiokasvu vähäiseksi. The aim of this study was to examine the influence of prolongation of starvation periods on growth and morphology of rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss). 240 rainbow trout (c. 40 g) were randomly assigned into four different feeding regimes using three tanks per treatment. The control group were fed twice a day from Monday to Friday. Other groups were fed less frequently. The control group had 68 feeding days during the experiment. Treatment 1 had 48 feeding days, treatment 2 43 and treatment 3 38 days. Whole experiment lasted for 13 weeks and during the last four weeks all groups were fed every day from Monday to Friday. Feed intake was continuously monitored. Samples were taken from each tank after four, nine and thirteen weeks. The sampled fish were eviscerated. The liver, visceral fat, emptied stomach and stomach contents were weighed. Stomach volume and liver water content were measured, and blood samples were taken from each sampled fish. The haematocrit and plasma chloride were analysed from the blood samples. At the end of the experiment control group fish were the biggest (235,3 ± 27,8 g) and the treatment 3 fish were the smallest (134,7 ± 24,5 g). There were no significant differences in condition factor, specific growth rate (SGR), feed conversion ratio or stomach volume between the treatments. The compensation coefficients in growth and food consumption were relatively low and only limited compensation growth occurred.
