Toiminnallisuus on paljon esill\u00e4 nykyajan suomalaisessa pedagogisessa kirjallisuudessa, mutta sen teoriatausta ja sovellusmahdollisuudet k\u00e4yt\u00e4nn\u00f6n opetukseen j\u00e4\u00e4v\u00e4t usein v\u00e4h\u00e4lle huomiolle. N\u00e4in ollen toiminnallisuudesta on useita erilaisia tulkintoja. Perusopetuksen opetussuunnitelman perusteiden (2014: 219) mukaan vieraiden kielten opetuksessa on k\u00e4ytett\u00e4v\u00e4 \u201dvaihtelevia ja toiminnallisia ty\u00f6tapoja\u201d. N\u00e4it\u00e4 ty\u00f6tapoja ei kuitenkaan m\u00e4\u00e4ritell\u00e4 tarkasti, joten kieltenopettajien voi olla haastavaa toteuttaa opetussuunnitelman tavoitteita ty\u00f6ss\u00e4\u00e4n. \n\nT\u00e4m\u00e4 materiaalipaketti sis\u00e4lt\u00e4\u00e4 Perusopetuksen opetussuunnitelman perusteiden (2014), kokemuksellisen oppimisen ja funktionaalisen kielik\u00e4sityksen periaatteisiin pohjautuvan tulkinnan toiminnallisuudesta. Tavoitteena on tarjota toiminnallisia teht\u00e4v\u00e4kokonaisuuksia alaluokkien englannin opetukseen. L\u00e4ht\u00f6kohtana on merkityksellisten kokemusten kautta oppiminen ja oppilaan rooli aktiivisena toimijana. Materiaalissa on erilaajuisia teht\u00e4v\u00e4kokonaisuuksia, joista opettajat voivat valikoida omille ryhmilleen parhaiten soveltuvat. Teht\u00e4vi\u00e4 voi vapaasti muokata oppilaiden tarpeiden mukaan. Materiaali pyrkii yhdist\u00e4m\u00e4\u00e4n konkreettisen kokemuksen ja toiminnan sek\u00e4 tiedon abstraktin kognitiivisen prosessoinnin oppilasl\u00e4ht\u00f6isesti. Tarkoituksena on rakentaa yhteyksi\u00e4 englannin kielen rakenteiden, sanaston ja fraasien sek\u00e4 niiden konkreettisten k\u00e4ytt\u00f6tarkoitusten v\u00e4lille. Materiaali on kohdennettu 5-6-luokkien englannin opetukseen, mutta sit\u00e4 voi soveltaa my\u00f6s muiden ik\u00e4ryhmien opetukseen.\n\nTeoriaosassa avaan toiminnallisen oppimisen k\u00e4sitett\u00e4 kokemuksellisen oppimisen ja toimijuuden teorioihin perustuen. K\u00e4sittelen toiminnallista kieltenoppimista ja -opetusta funktionaalisen kielik\u00e4sityksen teorioiden ja Perusopetuksen opetussuunnitelman perusteiden (2014) n\u00e4k\u00f6kulmista. Tarkastelen toiminnallisuuden erilaisia m\u00e4\u00e4ritelmi\u00e4 ja suhdetta kieltenoppimiseen ja -opetukseen my\u00f6s pedagogisen kirjallisuuden ja Eurooppalaisen viitekehyksen (2003) pohjalta. Lis\u00e4ksi pohdin syit\u00e4 sille, miksi toiminnallisuutta on vaikea m\u00e4\u00e4ritell\u00e4. Teoriataustan perusteella muodostan oman m\u00e4\u00e4ritelm\u00e4ni toiminnallisuudesta ja toiminnallisesta kieltenoppimisesta ja -opetuksesta.
