Heikentyneen terveyden ja ty\u00f6kyvyn on osoitettu ennustavan korkeaa sairauspoissaoloa. Nykyisin terveyden kannalta riitt\u00e4v\u00e4n liikunnan suositukset t\u00e4yttyv\u00e4t yh\u00e4 huonommin. T\u00e4m\u00e4n tutkielman tarkoituksena oli selvitt\u00e4\u00e4, onko fyysisell\u00e4 aktiivisuudella ja sairauspoissaoloilla yhteytt\u00e4 mets\u00e4teollisuudessa ty\u00f6skentelevill\u00e4 henkil\u00f6ill\u00e4. Lis\u00e4ksi tutkielmassa haluttiin tutkia, selitt\u00e4v\u00e4tk\u00f6 tietyt taustamuuttujat fyysist\u00e4 aktiivisuutta.\nTutkimusaineisto ja menetelm\u00e4t\nAineisto oli osa Terveen\u00e4 ty\u00f6el\u00e4m\u00e4ss\u00e4? -tutkimusta, joka on Jyv\u00e4skyl\u00e4n yliopiston terveystieteiden laitoksen toteuttama ty\u00f6hyvinvointiin liittyv\u00e4 tutkimusprojekti. Tutkimusprojektin yhteisty\u00f6osapuolina olivat Mets\u00e4 Group:in / Mets\u00e4 Wood:in kaksi tehdasta. Aineistonkeruu tapahtui kyselylomakkeella. Tutkimusasetelma oli poikkileikkaustyyppinen tapaus-verrokki-tutkimus, jossa tapauksilla oli verrokkeja v\u00e4hemm\u00e4n sairauspoissaoloja. Aineiston analysointi tapahtui IBM SPSS Statistics 24 -ohjelmalla. Analysointia tehtiin ryhmien v\u00e4listen keskiarvoerojen osalta Mann-Whitneyn U-testill\u00e4 ja kahden riippumattoman otoksen t-testill\u00e4. Muuttujien v\u00e4list\u00e4 riippuvuutta selvitettiin Spearmanin j\u00e4rjestyskorrelaatiokertoimella. Taustamuuttujien merkityst\u00e4 lopputulosmuuttujiin analysointiin lineaarisella regressioanalyysill\u00e4.\nTulokset\nTapausten ja verrokkien v\u00e4lill\u00e4 ei t\u00e4ss\u00e4 tutkielmassa l\u00f6ydetty tilastollisesti merkitsev\u00e4\u00e4 eroa fyysisess\u00e4 aktiivisuudessa, fyysisess\u00e4 kuormituksessa tai maksimaalisessa hapenottokyvyss\u00e4 (p-arvot > 0,050). Sukupuolten v\u00e4lill\u00e4 ilmeni tilastollisesti merkitsev\u00e4t erot miesten hyv\u00e4ksi fyysisess\u00e4 aktiivisuudessa (p-arvo < 0,050) ja maksimaalisessa hapenottokyvyss\u00e4 (p-arvo < 0,001). Ty\u00f6ntekij\u00f6iden ja toimihenkil\u00f6iden v\u00e4lill\u00e4 tilastollisesti merkitsev\u00e4 ero oli fyysisess\u00e4 kuormituksessa siten, ett\u00e4 ty\u00f6ntekij\u00f6iden kuormitus oli toimihenkil\u00f6iden kuormitusta suurempaa (p-arvo < 0,001; mean rank 100,06 vs. 43,53). Fyysist\u00e4 aktiivisuutta selitti taustamuuttujista parhaiten ty\u00f6kyky (p-arvo < 0,010) ja maksimaalista hapenottokyky\u00e4 ty\u00f6kyky (p-arvo < 0,010), ik\u00e4 sek\u00e4 sukupuoli (p-arvot < 0,001).\nJohtop\u00e4\u00e4t\u00f6kset\nT\u00e4ll\u00e4 tutkielmalla ei voitu osoittaa tilastollisesti merkitsevi\u00e4 eroja fyysisess\u00e4 aktiivisuudessa, fyysisess\u00e4 kuormituksessa tai maksimaalisessa hapenottokyvyss\u00e4 tapausten ja verrokkien v\u00e4lill\u00e4. Kuitenkin eroja l\u00f6ytyi sukupuolten v\u00e4lill\u00e4 fyysisess\u00e4 aktiivisuudessa ja maksimaalisessa hapenottokyvyss\u00e4; miehet olivat naisiin verrattuna fyysisesti aktiivisempia ja heid\u00e4n maksimaalinen hapenottokykyns\u00e4 oli parempi. Ty\u00f6ntekij\u00f6iden fyysinen kuormitus osoittautui toimihenkil\u00f6it\u00e4 suuremmaksi. Fyysist\u00e4 aktiivisuutta selitti parhaiten ty\u00f6kyky ja maksimaalista hapenottokyky\u00e4 ty\u00f6kyvyn lis\u00e4ksi ik\u00e4 ja sukupuoli. Impaired health and ability to work have been shown to predict high sickness absence. Nowadays the requirements for the health sustaining exercise are fulfilled poorly. The purpose of this study was to investigate, whether there is a connection between physical activity and sickness absence among the people working in the forest industry. The purpose was also to explore, whether some background variables explain physical activity.\nMethods\nThe data was a part of the sample of \u201dHealthy in working life?\u201d-study, which is a study relating to the wellbeing at work conducted by the department of health sciences in Jyv\u00e4skyl\u00e4 university. The co-operation parties of the research study were two factories of Mets\u00e4 Group / Mets\u00e4 Wood. The data collection was conducted by using a questionnaire. The study design was a cross-sectional case-control study, where cases were the ones, who had less sickness absence hours from work compared to controls. The statistical analysis was done by using the IBM SPSS Statistics 24 -program. Mean ranks between groups were analyzed with Mann-Whitney U-test and independent samples t-test. The analysis of correlation between variables was conducted with Spearman`s correlation coefficient. The significance of the background variables to the outcome variables was analyzed with linear regression analysis.\nResults\nIn this study there was no statistically significant differences found between the cases and the controls in physical activity, physical strain or maximal oxygen consumption (p-values > 0.050). Statistically significant differences between genders were found in physical activity (p-value < 0.050) and maximal oxygen consumption (p-value < 0.001); men were more physically active and had higher maximal oxygen consumption values than women. Between employees and officials there was a statistically significant difference in physical strain with the employees having higher physical strain levels than the officials (p-value < 0.001; mean rank 100.06 vs. 43.53). Physical activity level was best explained by the background variable ability to work (p-value < 0.010) and maximal oxygen consumption level by ability to work (p-value < 0.010), age and gender (p-values < 0.001).\nConclusions\nIn this study no statistically significant differences were found in physical activity, physical strain or maximal oxygen consumption between the cases and the controls. However, there were differences between the genders in physical activity and maximal oxygen consumption; men had higher physical activity and maximal oxygen consumption levels than women. Physical strain within the employees was higher than within the officials. Physical activity level was best explained by ability to work and maximal oxygen consumption by ability to work, age and gender.
